You have 20k pp to spend on a holiday. Where would you go and why?

Just that really. Fantasy shopping. I’m not sure I could actually bring myself to spend that irl…but if you had the cash and could where would be your dream destination?

Australia just to make my children see it- I went when I was a student and would love for us all to see it together!! (In real life they’re all into Greek culture so I’d have to go there with them!!)

idontlikealdi · 25/01/2024 22:33

Cruise. Where would depend on the time of year and time off work.

You could do 20k pretty easily at Ikos if you wanted a three week holiday.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 25/01/2024 22:37

Learn to dive in the Galapagos.

Do a few days in Singapore, then off to ski in New Zealand (August). On the way back get a few days sun somewhere.

It needs to suit you.

SurreyMumOfOne · 25/01/2024 22:39

Oh bloody hell. So many things. The one thing I've always dreamt of and can't see myself actually being able or willing to spend that much money on would be an absolute bees knees bungalow on stilts over a gorgeous ocean. Possibly Seychelles, probably South Pacific. Not Maldives.

Everything else I think you can find ways of doing more cheaply,

Riverlee · 25/01/2024 22:40

Either Australia to visit relatives, or a luxury motorhome holiday across America.

TiaSeeya · 25/01/2024 22:43

If we are talking dreams, then Africa. Dreaming of no wars or danger or destruction of the last decade. Lebanon, Egypt, Eritrea, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Madagascar. Three months and a friendly local guide in each place.

Reality - well not having £20k pp spare aside - snorkeling in luxury in the Maldives - before it’s all ruined by global warming.

PermanentTemporary · 25/01/2024 22:44

Sorry to be so limited in my viewpoint but I'd book a week in a suite* at Claridges and do and see everything London has to offer - box at the opera, Hatton Garden shopping, tour St Paul's, all the galleries, you name it.

*possibly two nights, I seem to remember it costs an absolutely unfeasible amount per night

EbbasFleet · 25/01/2024 22:45

£20k pp is so much!

I'd take a year off work and travel round the world if it was just me and DP - or the kids were older! I reckon we could do the full year!

Sadly the kids have school and GCSEs & A-levels to do instead!

PermanentTemporary · 25/01/2024 22:46

Ooh or the Orient Express! Isn't it right that you can still do that?

Teentaxidriver · 25/01/2024 22:49

Maldives for two weeks at Christmas. Years ago, friends were quoted £78k for a family of 5. God knows how much it costs now.

Algorhythum · 25/01/2024 23:03

Yeah, Ebbas I think I’m with you on that. It is soooo much. I’d panic spending a sum like that all in one short holiday.
I’m lucky to have travelled a lot when I was younger, there are so many placesI still havent been though…

love a bit of travel inspiration, which is why I started the thread really. No money but love to dream!

Oooh fun thread.

I think I'd actually do Florida! Which is a bit sad but I really want to take the kids (and me!) to the Harry Potter bit of universal studios but absolutely can't afford to in real life, and I wouldn't hate doing the rest of the Disney thing either. Would be nice to do it in luxury. Then maybe go on to Cuba afterwards for something a bit more interesting?

Moier · 25/01/2024 23:20

Rio to see The Statue of Christ.. First class all the way .

MajesticWhine · 25/01/2024 23:21

Maldives. I've always wanted to go there.

EffortlessDistraction · 25/01/2024 23:21

I'd explore Canada in luxury and then go on an Alaskan cruise from Vancouver.

NewName24 · 25/01/2024 23:29

Ah, so many

Canada - taking 6 or 8 weeks to travel across the country
Safari - so Africa, but haven't done the research as to when the best Country is. Would like to see Victoria Falls as well though.
I'd love one of those "perfect beach, white sand, blue sea" holidays for a week or so..... maybe Maldives, maybe somewhere in the Caribbean, but open to other suggestions
Norwegian Fjords - want to see the Northern lights

Colinorpercy · 25/01/2024 23:32

Cruise to Bora Bora….one can dream

mmgirish · 26/01/2024 08:46

A big trip around South America.

Rocknrollstar · 26/01/2024 09:04

DD and I would sail through the North West Passage. we’ve already chosen the trip but it’s £20 k pp and starts in Vancouver and ends in Seattle. So haven’t actually booked!

FromMilanToMinsk1 · 26/01/2024 09:38

Wouldn't need 20k, but I'd take us all to Japan because my DD longs to go there. I hate flying especially longhaul, but I'd just suck it up and go as it'd make her so happy. And I would love to see Japan.

beguilingeyes · 26/01/2024 09:46

A round the world cruise maybe, or the Far East generally. I really want to go to Japan and we've been to Vietnam bit nowhere else over there.
I've always wanted to hire a mega-deluxe Winnebago and drive round the US/Canada for a couple of months...although I'd be scared of getting lost and being shot asking for directions.

Girlsjustwannahavefungi · 26/01/2024 10:07

California wine country - with first class flights, amazing hotels and a chauffeur.

Hyperion100 · 26/01/2024 10:16

We could backpack around the world in relative comfort for 6 months with 40 grand.

Algorhythum · 26/01/2024 11:29

So many places mentioned on here that I’d love to go to!
yes to Japan, and China and India!
