New York plus relaxing week

We're thinking of doing a long weekend in NY - sights and shopping and then a chill week somewhere. Don't want to hire a car.

Any ideas? Could we do Cape Cod or is there anywhere else within train or short flight distance?

Cape Cod is doable. It's about a 3 hour train journey from NYC to Boston. I would recommend hiring a car if you're going to the Cape though. Also, when are you going? I think many restaurants etc on Cape Cod close out of season.

There are also the Finger Lakes and Lake George in upstate NY worth considering.

Head to Long Island - The Hamptons and Montauk. Train ride to and from Manhattan - dead easy and quick.

Cruise? The Caribbean and Canada/New England depart from New York.

Recommend cape cod. Train to Boston then car. We stayed Here on an mn recommendation. so cheap and so wonderful. Really loved it. We also combined with a trip to NY. Wooden lakeside cabins. Rustic but perfectly comfortable. One week here was cheaper than one night in Ny!

Have done something similar in the past.
Maybe it’s too far for you but Miami is a 3 hour flight from New York.
Great spot for a chill out week.
Hoghly recommend.

Thanks everyone lots to think about. Am looking at cruises out of NY. DH lived in Miami so isn't keen to go back.

I would take the train to Boston and then hire a car, Cape Cod and also the rest of Massachussets is really great.

But - if you go later than Memorial Day in September, most of the the area will close down for tourists. In this case I would go Vermont or Upstate NY.

Go go south to Virgina.
