Vietnam

I'd like to take my 18 year old twins backpacking in Vietnam. They are dead keen. I only have a couple of weeks (maybe three) and thought about flying in and out of Hanoi, traveling half way down the country and back, rather than rushing the Hanoi to HCM city route. But I am open to being told that I can easily cover the length of the country in that time. I also want to be relatively comfortable, so no backpacker dorms. Any tips, ideas?

What month of the year for your trip to North and Central VN?
You can also travel North to South of VN in 2 weeks or more.

In 3 weeks I flew into HNM and went south, a beautiful unspoilt delta region. Highly reccomend

I'm dithering about when. I was looking at October but I can go for longer if I leave around Dec 18th.

October/ November is not a good time for Central VN (Flood and typhoon season).

I know you may already been to Vietnam, cuz the post is kinda old now. However, 3 weeks is good enough for travel length of Vietnam from top to toe.

Here I suggest to divide country into 3 part:

1: North - Hanoi - Halong Bay and Alpine Mountains
2: Center - Danang - Hoi An and some nice beach stay
3: South - Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong and more

Try to land in either south or north and exit from the other side.

The best time to go is largely depend on which part of the country are you traveling. Each place has its own distinct season and weather. Here is a full guide I wrote recently : https://www.vietnameseprivatetours.com/best-time-visit-vietnam

For the itinerary ideas and trip inspiration, I have also wrote a 4 weeks travel itinerary covering pretty much everything: https://www.vietnameseprivatetours.com/one-month-vietnam-itinerary

Hope this helps everyone,

Thank you

I am thinking of doing this on the way back from a trip to the UK (heading back home to Perth). I know there are a few climates to consider, would June be a good time to go (we are fairly flexible but want to get in Southern Hemisphere winter/ Northern Hemisphere summer)? We have never been so thinking of joining a tour for 2-3 weeks , is north to South better or vice-versa? Any recommendations/advice would be great.
