Stopovers to Oz

Good Stopvers with pre teens on way to oz? Few days each side. Not Dubai, went for half term, not our bag, overpriced and soulless. Have stopped in Singapore several times as a singleton but not with kids. Any good recommendations? Easy on route.

Doha? My brother and his wife usually stop there when flying to and from OZ

We really enjoyed Hong Kong but that was many years ago. Plenty to do and see.

We have also done KL which was possibly my least favourite. Still good to see. That year we did KL on our way out and Langkawi in our way back.

I wouldn’t rule out doing Singapore again as there is loads to do with Kids.

What about Tokyo? That’s out plan for our next stop.

My kids adored Singapore. First time they were 4,8,14 - have done it many times since, now they are adults. Most fun was just me and DD when she was 10. There is so much to do with kids and it is such an easy, safe place to be. Hotels are expensive but offer the kind of five star luxury you rarely see outside of Asia now.

I'll probably be heading to Oz sometime this year to visit my son so following this with great interest.

I would stopover in Singapore. It’s changed a lot since you were last there.

Could you fly the other way and go via LA?

PinkPondQueen · 27/01/2024 15:38

Flying East my favourite stopover was Hong Kong closely followed by Kuala Lumpur.

Our best ever stopovers though was flying West with Air Canada and stopping in Calgary for a short trip to Banff with a stop in Vancouver on the return leg. The flights to & from Brisbane were also really quiet and we got a row to ourselves each. Bliss!

Go the other way and stop in LA for a bit of Disney?

How do the flight times compare going to Vancouver and then on to Oz.Son lives in Vancouver and other son potentially off to Oz in the summer 😫

We went the other way - San Francisco on the way out (aquarium, boat trip round the bay etc) and New York on the way back. We were lucky enough to be able to spend 2/3 days in each city so if you can spare the time for that, it’s worth doing.

Singapore is brilliant with kids.

We stopped over in December and got really reasonably priced accommodation at Village Hotel Katong which is between Changi and the city and across the road from East Coast Park. They were also very good with our oddly timed flights. Would stay there again as it was so convenient.

@Ohlordylordlordy the flight times were great, day flight LHR to Calgary & onto Vancouver, overnight flight then to Oz getting there in the morning. Same coming back. It may be different now of course, this was in 2018 or 2019. Around 23 hours in total.
