Hi, we're thinking of going to one of the Canary Islands in late March for 2 weeks. We have 2 DC ages 9 and 5.

Thinking a villa or apartment rather than a hotel.

which is the best in your opinion?

Thank you

I think Fuerteventura is best for beaches.

I like Tenerife, Lanzarote and La Gomera. With childen, I would probably go to Flamingo Beach near Playa Blanca on Lanzarote. It has a few hotels ans self catering resorts nearby, a small, artificial cove, that looks natural, but gives a large shallow area, with sand. It is quite shallow so warms up quickly. Plays Blanca is a quiet resort, with lots of restaurants. If you haven't been before. Lamzarote has an incredible volcanic landscape, grey pumice everywhere. Dont miss going to the volcanic park, you can ride a camal and have a barbeque cooked from the fire of the volcano. If you go to Tenerife. Adeje is good for families. Again, don't miss going up Mt Teide it is incredible.

La Gomera is probably better without chikdren. Beautiful small island, but not the tourist infrastructure found on the bigger islands.

Lanzarote is very fun and great for kids.

Tenerife all the way. Have a look at trip advisor for Siam park and loro parque - the most amazing parks I've ever been to and are rated as world best. I'd do all inc at a hotel... means you don't have to think about cooking and can enjoy yourself as well :)

Tenerife is the most touristy of the islands so lots to see and do.

Full disclosure as well... I've been to all the islands and with kids this is the firm favourite.

Also if you hire a car I'd recommend doing in advance and with Auto Reisen as they are the cheapest on the island and car seats for kids are complimentary

Not been to La Gomera but i agree with the rest. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote was lovely, really enjoyed our holiday there last May. Costa Adeje is a slightly quieter part of Tenerife which is lovely. Los Cristianos and Playa De Las Americas are both livelier resorts.

Mt Teide is amazing, very cold and thin air at the top but the views are fantastic.

Another recommendation for car hire is Cicar, we always use them and they are great.
Loro Parque is Tenerife was amazing, my daughter loved it.

bobomomo · 20/01/2024 09:57

Tenerife is great and there's so many great reasonably priced restaurants I wouldn't bother doing ai again. I'd opt for adeje, perhaps close to Porto colon.

bobomomo · 20/01/2024 09:57

Oh and the buses are good, we didn't need to rent a car

If you're going for a 2-week holiday then I agree, Tenerife is your best bet, because there is loads to do. There is enough to do in Lanzarote or Gran Canaria for a week, or two if you're happy to spend multiple days just chilling at your hotel, but Tenerife is the only island with lots of fun days out.

We were there for 10 days last summer and had plenty to do. Siam Park is amazing, but do get there before it opens so you can dash to the gift shop once you're in and get fast passes for everyone. They only sell a really small amount each day, so you have to be in the queue before the park opens (and quite near the front of it too) to get them.

We really don’t like Lanzarote. We’ve been a few times, and explored the island but it’s just not for us. We much prefer Fuerteventura but it can be windy, and Gran Canaria is lovely too. Our favourite is La Palma but there’s not much to do there, so not great for children.

Jane McDonald is doing a series on the Canary Islands on Channel 5 atm, it’s very good.

Lanzarote or Tenerife both have lots of things to do and are fairly budget, I’d go with lanzarote over Tenerife purely because the wind makes the island a bit cooler which is idea with young kids. Furturventura is a bit too quite and Gran Canaria is a but more expensive for the same thing.
