Sunny post GCSE long weekend for mum & teen?

Thinking of taking DD away for a long weekend after her GCSEs before the school holidays. She wants to tan and laze around reading on loungers. I probably want to do the same but a bit worried if it’s just us two we might get bored! And wondered if we are better off in a city, but one that combines with sun & loungers… ideally will cost no more than £1.5k max for the both of us for about 4 nights away…

Look at one of the beach resorts in the south of France.

Meadowfinch · 17/01/2024 14:19

I've just been looking for exactly the same thing.

Porto or Madeira seem to tick most of our boxes. 🙂

Royal Sun Resort in Tenerife has plenty to do for 4 days. All rooms have self catering kitchenettes, with a shop onsite with fresh bread every day or there are two restaurants on site, one fine dining the other a buffet. Each room has a huge balcony with the most amazing view.
Los Gigantes is great, has a nice beach with snorkeling at the bottom of the hill. Paddle board and kayak hire. Boat trips to see whales and dolphins. Small pool, alot quieter than big resorts with slides etc as fewer families. TUI does day trips out to Mt Teide or water park etc or there's a bus station Hub nearby to travel around the rest of the island.

Dubrovnik - Rixos Premium
Valetta - Excelsior

Either would be fantastic for a short break!

How about Palma, Majorca? There are some lovely hotels in/near the centre, with pools and loungers, some have spas, and lots to see and do nearby - cathedral, marina, cycle along the front, take the train to Soller, restaurants, tapas bars. It's a lovely place to spend a relaxing few days.

QforCucumber · 17/01/2024 15:32

Milan or Barcelona, hotel with a pool and you can also explore

reluctantbrit · 17/01/2024 17:37

I second Palma, lots to do, shopping and nice hotels which aren't huge AI resorts.

Barcelona?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 17/01/2024 18:00

I third Palma !

Everything @budgiegirl says .

Alternatives - Dubrovnik, Malaga, Barcelona

Anxhor · 17/01/2024 18:05

Yes Palma sounds perfect

Although no sun loungers or beach I spent a glorious 5 very sunny days in Paris with DD post GCSEs last year in July

Probably not possible this year due.to the Olympics

We had our beach holiday in August

iamme21 · 17/01/2024 18:51

Barcelona?

NotDonna · 18/01/2024 06:18

I took DD1 to Santorini but it was in her bucket list and we had a week so did a nice mix of pool lazing and sightseeing.

Baconking · 18/01/2024 07:12

Athens?

Floofydawg · 18/01/2024 07:18

Malaga is fabulous. Beaches, shops, restaurants and lots to see.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 18/01/2024 07:42

I’d recommend Malaga too. Hqve also done Barcelona, Seville, Lisbon, Palma and Marrakesh and all would be perfect for 4 days of chill in the sunshine. Oh and Valencia too!

WarningOfGails · 18/01/2024 10:56

Thanks folks some lovely ideas here!

going to keep it simple with our local airport which reduces my options - Malaga looks v likely at the moment. Now to find out when the prom date is!

I was just about to post the same thing for this year, we are wanting to go after results.
Where did you end up going @WarningOfGails ? 😀
