Majorca August Mosquitos

Hi I'm just wondering is this a huge problem in august. I'm looking at resorts like can picafort the zafiro hotel or a good family hotel in cala bona or sa cóma direction. I've read a few post about mosquitos last summer being really bad. Any feedback would be appreciated are some parts of island worse than others with mosquitos. Thanks

I had a few when we were in pollensa last year, I’ve had worse in corfu though. It wasn’t horrendous and they do like me usually

Yes. If it’s hot and there is water nearby there are mosquitos. It was particularly bad in 2023 though. Most of the shops sell plug ins. Buy one. They do help.

I’m going this year again (I visit my relatives there as often as I can) and that’s what I will be doing.

Not in my experience. But why Majorca in August, it's fucking evil.

We were in Majorca for the last week of August last year. No mosquitos to be seen. We were staying in the hills outside Pollensa.

The further away you get from the sea, the less mosquitos you see. There won’t be as many further inland as they breed in brackish water (a mix of fresh and sea water) and there isn’t much of that in the hills.

So really it depends where you are staying. Soller, Alcudia, and other coastal areas had issues last year. Hopefully better this year (as that’s where I will be and although mosquitos don’t care about me, DH gets eaten alive!)

I visited Alcudia in June last year. Lots is mozzies due to the wetlands around there.

We also stayed inland Pollensa in August and were besieged by wasps - impossible to sit outside in the evenings or barbecue.

stonkytonk11 · 17/01/2024 22:24

Never had a problem with mosquitos in can Picafort or Sa coma in July/August. Only time we got quite a few bites was in Alcudia...

MaudeKidd · 18/01/2024 00:05

We love going to majorca but we never go July/ Aug as its too hot. We were rebels when our son was younger and took him out of primary school for a week each June and went then. Cheaper to pay the fine from school.
C'an Picafort resort isn't the nicest (waiting for comments.....)and Alcudia is like Blackpool on steroids!
Alcudia old town is lovely though. Mossies not been a major problem though wasps have been. Just a nuisance.
We love puerto pollensa and pollensa and like to stay in the surrounding countryside or in the hills

Stayed in Sa Coma Auvust 2019 and was bitten loads. I'd never been bitten before, but they were really bad. I spent a lot of time killing the little bastards and complaining to the hotel that their plug ins did not work.
But then last year I went to Turkey, and was bitten even more and those have gone on to leave awful scars. 😖
