Barcelona tips / places to stay

Travelling for 4 days end of Feb with DC's aged 12 and 9.

Where (as in which location) should I look for a hotel / air b&b in? Ideally walkable to sights but feels safe.

Also if anyone has a recommendation for a hotel please do share. We will probably get an apartment but i am not adverse to splashing out on a hotel!

I love Barcelona. It is my favourite city!

I tend to stay in the Exaimple district, which is North (I think) of Placa de Catalunya. The opposite side to Las Ramblas anyway. It's quieter than the Old Town and Las Ramblas and is close to lots of the wonderful Modernista buildings.

I've stayed in hotels on Passeig de Gracia but nowadays prefer apartments. You can make your own breakfast and packed lunch.

Exaimple is about 20 minutes walk from Sagrada Familia in one direction and the Old Cathedral in the other. It feels safer than the older parts.
