Japan - early summer?

Hi, I know summer is not the ideal time to visit Japan but what is it like late June/early July? Is it tolerable, also in the cities?

I’ve been in September, just before the rugby started, it was only just tolerable with the humidity, I sweated in places I didn’t know I could and got caught up in a typhoon but i absolutely loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat, I’d just be prepared and make use of breaks / vending machines to keep hydrated. Potentially lower expectations of how much you’ll see per day to factor in more breaks.

Thanks - sounds a bit uncomfortable but worth it anyway?

Yeah definitely, just dive in and out of shops for a cool down. There’s a 7/11 on pretty much every street in Tokyo / Major cities and even the smaller places have them too. If you’re travelling around different places then pack light and make use of the washer / dryers that are available in most hotels or apartment blocks so when you’re going to stations you’ve not got too much.

Off now to investigate whether it’s worth taking two young children rather than waiting till their old to get my Japan fix…

I’ve been in June (although early-mid June) before and it was fine.

There will be rain at that time of year and weather can be anything from low 20s to low 30s but the heat shouldn’t be unbearable in the way it gets from mid July onwards when it’s generally in the 30s every day.

Summer isn’t the best time to visit Japan, but if it’s the only time you can go then I’d say it’s better than not going at all.
