I book holidays when I’m bored. Help.

I seem to book holidays when I’m bored. I feel I need something to look forward to so I start my process of searching for a holiday. I can’t stop until I’ve found a good deal. I then bully dh into agreeing. I book it. And then have a think about it and decide, you know what, I’m not actually that keen about going?

I have this issue and generally do a lot of research, price things up and then book things I can cancel! Don’t feel you have to stop, just bring in the cancellable element and it’s win win. The plus side is you can get some absolute bargains.

Cartrucktractor · 14/01/2024 12:35

Oh yeah, booking holidays and then cancelling them is my number one hobby basically

TheChosenTwo · 14/01/2024 12:37

Oh we are the complete opposite! Put off looking and booking anything until the absolute last minute and then doing no research and booking the first thing that ticks our boxes when we type the exact thing we want into google for 10 days time 😂
To be fair we’ve never been disappointed!

😎I do daydream about holidays a lot and spend a lot of time researching, watching videos etc. But if I think I may change mind, something better may appear later, I book free cancellation though have to be a bit careful abroad as sometimes you are charged in foreign currency then refunded so lose a little bit. I always look forward to and love holidays. The issue when I book free cancellation is I carry on obsessively searching so change my mind a silly amount of times. Though that results in amazing holidays which we all love but I do feel for the people working in hotel bookings.

I was totally with you until the 'not really up for going' bit🤣

Career change to a travel agent or find a new hobby.

WilhelminaBunter · 14/01/2024 12:49

We are like @TheChosenTwo, but left to my own devices I might be more like op - dh reigns me in which might be a good thing (much as I hate to admit it 😒)

MissAmbrosia · 14/01/2024 17:25

I am a frustrated travel agent 😄I always have to have something on the go. I've booked my 2 weeks in May/June for Puglia (by train 😱) and have a trip to Kosovo of all places booked for March. I think we are going to Berlin with friends in August. It's cold today so I have been looking at South of France for September maybe....Dd seems to be a chip off the old block as she has Tirana and London planned for the end of the month after her exams, so of course I get to help with that too.

bobomomo · 14/01/2024 17:32

I'm researching trip for the next 10 years! Thankfully I'm quite mean with my credit card

TheChosenTwo · 14/01/2024 20:28

I think some people just really enjoy spending time looking and researching but Dh and I hate it, have no patience for finding the best deal etc, just want to get it booked and forget about it until we get there 😂 once we are there we have a lovely time with almost no expectations.
It’s really liberating!
I mean, we obviously have dates in mind as I need to book leave and for family trips we need to work with school holidays, dh can take time off as and when so it matters least to him.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/01/2024 20:30

I was going to agree but I'm always fully onboard with going on the trip, I never cancel anything.

NewYearNewYak · 14/01/2024 20:30

I love booking and researching holidays and used to get some good bargains but now we’re tied to school holidays it seems impossible.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/01/2024 20:31

I also work in travel including booking holidays and can confirm that does not scratch the itch.

Perhaps the MNers who love researching and booking holidays should look on behalf of those who hate it !

I admit I like planning and choosing holidays - but only my kind of holiday!

MrsMitford3 · 16/01/2024 18:19

lol.

No help at all I'm afraid-just booked a city break in Prague in May about 5 mins ago...

lightand · 16/01/2024 18:22

Wictc · 16/01/2024 18:32
