Turkey with toddler

We are looking at holidays in Turkey this year. The children will be 7 and 1 1/2, so I am worried about it being too hot june/July/august and thought the Easter holidays in April might be better? We will get somewhere air conditioned regardless, but do want to spend time in the pool etc.

Dc is very interested in Ephesus and Pamukkale, so we will look to stay somewhere both are accessible. Preferably all inclusive. Any advice welcome.

Sorry OP, shamelessly place marking as were off too Antalya in Turkey in July. Taking a 5 year old (autistic!) and 3 month old. Have you flown with the kids before?

We have been to several Greek islands with dc1, from he was about 2. He is being assessed for asd. We flew to London with both recently and it was a nightmare. The baby went completely mad the whole time 🙈. It was a very long 40 minutes! Hoping for more success this summer!

I was looking at Antalya, but it would be a real trek to Ephesus.

I’ve been to Turkey a lot and I would say that if you want to do site-seeing like Ephesus and Pamukkale then I would definitely go in April (I’ve been in July and it’s incredibly hot walking around Ephesus and there isn’t much shade- I wouldn’t even consider doing it with my toddlers).

We were based near Fethiye and did an overnight trip so I can’t recommend nearby accommodation. You’ll probably want to look at Kusadasi and Bodrum though. I have an amazing recommendation if you do want to stay in a family friendly resort near Fethiye (there are lots of ruins and trips nearby too- although admittedly none are as impressive as Ephesus).

If you do go in the summer then make sure you take sun protection swimsuits and swim shoes (slip stop are good) for your toddler. The tiles around the pool and the sand get really hot and having to constantly reapply sunscreen is a massive pain (we’ve travelled a lot with toddlers and this would be my main piece of advice).

Pine Bay Resort, Kusadasi. Great family resort.
We went to Ephesus from there.

We went to Turkey last July with 5 & 3yr olds and it was very very hot but they were absolutely fine. They spend most of their time in the pool and had a fantastic time.

It would have been way too hot to take them on any excursions, but I don’t think they would have enjoyed that anyway, regardless of the weather.

If your little ones are going to want to play in the pool, I would say that April- May time would be too cold unless the pool is heated as the weather won’t be warm enough to have warmer the water yet. June would probably be a good bet.
