Sorry if this isn’t in the right topic area

im stressing. We’ve booked to go to the UAE/ Dubai in February and I don’t understand how we would lug a car seat around? DS is 14 months and I’m not sure what to do.

how would we use a car seat over there?
mid we get a taxi to the mall, are we expected to carry it around?! Surely not?

Are you on the metro line to the places you want to go?
Carsests at that stage are extremely unportable. I'd be looking at ways to not need a car seat when abroad until they are big enough to have a travel booster cushion.

do you mean if you hire a car? You can usually add a car seat on to car rental. Apologies if that’s not what you meant!

Depending on how big they are they will probably still fit an infant seat, something like the joie juva fits an average child until they are 18-20 months, then you could use it on the pram. Or you take a joie stages and hump it round with you/hire a car. Or use public transport. We went when my eldest was 13 months - we took a stages for the airport transfers then used the metro the rest of the time.

When we went to Dubai with our baby son we used Careem taxi services. They're like Uber but they have a category of car that provides isofix car seats. Hth

We have travelled with out little one since 6months, she is 5 now. We always book taxi that provides baby/child seats. Never had problem. Dubai is super modern country, you will not have a trouble to book car with suitable seats.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m not willing to pay for another car seat if I’m honest.
we have 2 already and they’re heavy and big!

def won’t fit in the infant one anymore.

looks like we’ll be ok booking a taxi with a car seat I think then.. I hope anyway!

Maybe. A 14-month-old would be growing out of it, they're quite small.

But also they're really low. A friend of mine's baby was hurt twice in a Doona - only minor injuries, but both times, the person hadn't seen the Doona and fell into it/stepped into it. I'd be nervous!

That’s fair. It just occurred to me that her child is already 14 months so it would be too small 🫣

You don’t need to take a car seat with you to Dubai. Ubers have a family option which allows you to hire an Uber with a cybex car seat. That’s why we like going there - easy to get around with small children!

Can’t remember if it’s Uber or Careem btw, but same concept - you can book a car with a car seat.

Currently planning a 2 night stop over in Dubai with a 7 month old and a 4 year old. Just wondering how you got on when you went?

ohmygolli · 18/11/2024 23:39

@Josiejo12 careem do provide car seats! So you should be fine. We were with them
otherwise baby was in arms or we had family who had a spare from friends on occasion

@ohmygolli did you have problems getting a taxi with a car seat at the airport? I also have family there who can lend us a car seat but we arrive at 1am, so I’d need to sort myself out from the airport to the hotel…
