Lost passport

I've lost my passport - I've a holiday booked but not until the summer so I've plenty of time to get a replacement. I'm just trying to find out if I report my passport lost and get a replacement is this just a duplicate of the lost passport with the same number etc or would it be a new number and I'd have to change my details on the holiday booking?

You need to report your passport as lost so that it can be cancelled; you will be issued with a new passport with a different number.

It will be a new passport number and be valid for 10 years again
