Gites de France - how to pay

Heeeeelp!

I've reserved a place to stay next summer but I'm finding it difficult to pay for it. I can't find a way to pay through the website. I sent an email to ask how to pay but not heard anything back. If I want help I need to go through the local Gites de France (it is split into areas) and I guess phone since my email drew a blank but I'm not 100% sure what area my booking comes under.

It just seems so backward compared to Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, Agoda etc etc.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Dis you get a PDF email attachment when you first made your booking? There should be a link on that to your client account and that will take you to it.

Also, each area has a certain code, so the reference of the gite you've booked should help you find which area it relates to, although, annoyingly, there doesn't seem to be a straightforward key. I use the website most years, if you can tell me the first few numbers of the gite you've booked, I could possibly work out which area?

Yes, I can link to my account and go to my booking but there doesn't seem to be a way to pay for it!

It's Gites de France Sud. I got that much! Ref is 66G116018. I think it's Pyrénées-Orientales but I'm not sure. The area is Ceret.

Unfortunately our laptop is broken so trying to do it on phone and I'm not sure it's working properly with Android.

It's the area we went last year and I'm going through emails trying to work out if I did anything different. I got a PDF when I booked, and on there was a blue button which took me through to my account on the portal... I don't think I'm helping, which is useless, sorry 😐

OhBollocks23 · 07/01/2024 22:42

And I do everything on my Android phone, so that should be fine

Yes, there is the blue button but then it just has details of the accommodation, amounts to pay and when expected. But nothing on how to actually pay! It's really weird and frustrating. The document n itself is coming up quite scrambled which is why I was wondering if it was my phone - letters on top of each other, but I can just about decipher it.

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm a bit stumped then. I can go through to my last year's booking and onto the portal, but obviously, because I've already paid I now can't see how I would do it. I don't recall it being too troublesome though. Have you tried putting your phone on landscape, in case there's a sneaky button at the edge? That often catches me out.

Feel free to PM me a screenshot if you feel comfortable and I'll see if it brings anything back to my perimenopausal brain...

They like cash, on arrival.

Patsykenning · 08/01/2024 06:38

how did you book it without paying anything?
We booked through them last year and it was straightforward - paid the remainder by clicking back through booking email. Sounds like there must be a glitch - hope they get back to you asap.

It wouldn't let me pay anything when I booked, which I was surprised/ worried about. I swear it said I couldn't pay till Jan but now I see that you have to pay by Feb 12th. So it's just a reservation. I'll try today on DHs work laptop when he has a break.

I'll also try the landscape thing on my phone but I don't think it's that. Maybe they do want cash but I'm sure they want me to pay something before August otherwise I might just not turn up. Perhaps all the gites operate differently.

@OhBollocks23 The landscape thing sorted it! For some reason in portrait it was cutting off pages and this way the page wasn't cut off and the payment button came up.

Yippppeee.

Thank you so so much. 💐🧀🍷

Except now it won't let me type anything in. I have shown it to DH who is a PM in tech and he can't do it either. Oh well. At least I know the payment option is possible and maybe it will work on a computer.

OP posts:
OhBollocks23 · 08/01/2024 09:57

Oh, I'm glad you're half sorted! There do seem to be occasional anomalies; one year, I lost a booking as there was a part hidden deep in the form stipulating that I had to physically sign within six weeks - never seen that before or since 🙃

MerryMarigold · 08/01/2024 10:55

Yay! Did it on dh's work laptop. Deposit paid and I'm so relieved. It took ages to find this place and it's for extended family so it would be difficult if it didn't work out!

Brilliant! Have a lovely time, it's gorgeous round there 😊

Thank you. Looking forward!
