European car hire for different countries

We looking at hiring a car in Vienna and then maybe driving into Czechia. I saw somewhere there was an extra £100 charge for this but now can’t seem to find it when getting quotes. Is this allowed/what has it cost people?

The car hire companies will add a “cross bordering” charge. When we did this (Germany/Austria/Italy) we found the costs varied hugely between companies and was buried in the small print of terms when doing our search/comparison before booking. We also weren’t able to notify the company or pay the cross bordering in advance, it was a notify & pay on pick up. Some countries and types of car were also excluded and not permitted.
So……check really carefully on all the different company websites before and remember to tell them when you pick the car up!

To add….just checked what we paid this past summer - €6.24 per day, payable for every day of hire period, to add cross bordering. This was one of the cheapest fees and was part of the decision behind who we chose (Enterprise)
