Has anyone had a forest holiday recently? I've read some reviews saying the lodges are a bit tired, so looking for some more recent reviews if possible? Also is there much to do for children on site or nearby? Thanks ☺️

I don't know what Forest Holidays is like, so can't comment on that. But there is lots to do in the Forest of Dean area for kids. There's a colliery, Clearwell caves, Puzzlewood, Perrygrove Railway, Symonds Yat, a cycling centre where you can hire bikes, lots of walks in the Forest.

My friend has been to the Yorkshire one recently because she has a blue light card as a foster carer and got a third off she said it was great ! Really nice lodge with a hot tub. She's booked another for Bedgelert so it must've been good ?

A few friends are literally at a FOD site now that has been updated recently and say it’s really nice however one of the bathrooms needs a little attention. Stunning area with lots of walks and cycle trails for the kids and Go Ape close by.

Thanks @Powerplant do you know what type of lodge they're in?

There were 6 of them so 3 bedrooms with a hot tub. It’s the one near Coleford not the Whitemead one.

I was in the FOD one this summer. Definitely didn't feel tired to me. We absolutely loved it. I have two boys aged 7 and 10 and there was a great mix of organised activities on site, local activities to book (pony riding, Go Ape, Sculpture Trail) and time to just chill or go for a ramble by yourselves. And the hot tub is heavenly.
We were in two bed lodge. En suite bathroom could probably benefit from a lock of paint but shower was good and hot!

We were in a Golden Oak at FoD in August for a long weekend. First time at any FH venues and were very impressed with the quality. Lovely place to be based with lots to do.

We went there about two years ago. Our cabin was generally ok but was a bit tired in places, mainly the bathroom from memory. Nothing worthy of complaining about though as I'm sure the cabins get a lot of use and not everybody treats them with respect. They were refurbing some of them whilst we were there. We've booked to go again in Feb half term.

Thanks for this thread. Thinking of booking for May half term.

As for things to do - Perrygrove Railway is lovely. For a rainy day Monmouth isn't far away and they have a leisure centre with swimming pool and soft play.
