Lake Maggiore (or somewhere else) with a toddler?

Hi all,
We want to take our toddler (he’ll be almost 2) to Italy in June. Looking for low hassle options and the only direct flights from our local airport are to Milan. I’m thinking Lake Maggiore for a more laid back option. Does anyone have any recommendations of hotels/apartments or even towns that would suit us? We want to be self catering or b&b with a budget of around £1.5k for the week for accommodation. Either hotel/apartment or agroturismo would suit. Pool would be great! Ideally want to avoid having to hire a car but please tell me if that’s a terrible idea!

Easy without a car - there is a direct transfer from Milan Malpensa to Stresa - which is lovely. There's a wild animal park on the edge of town, playgrounds on the Lake front and boat trips galore. The town is compact with lots of restaurants. We stayed a couple of times in Hotel La Palma which has a lakefront pool plus a small one on the roof with fabulous views.

Amazing, thank you! I’ve never done this part of Italy so any recommendations are very gratefully received. Safari park is right up the little one’s street!
