Short trip to Flanders field

DD 11 has requested a trip to Flanders field as they've studied WW1 at school. I'm thinking short break end of this month. We live on the south coast so not too much travel time. Thinking of getting ferry from Dover to Dunkirk Friday morning and return Sunday evening.

Plan is to visit Flanders field and museum etc on Friday afternoon, then Plopsaland (love that name) Saturday and chill/travel home Sunday.

Where is a good cheap place to live near these places? Don't mind hotel or Airbnb.
Is Plopsaland worth the £40 entrance?
Would my timings for these activities work, distance etc
Finally and most importantly, are you allowed to bring cheeses back into the UK post Brexit?

Any tips really gratefully received. I know the weather will potentially be rubbish but we don't have many free weekends coming up so figure we can wear raincoats and wellies.

Do you mean the museum in Ypres? Its fantastic. The Last Post at the Menin Gate should not be missed. It's easy to visit some of the trenches and Tyne Cot cemetry. Sanctuary Wood springs to mind. We stayed overnight in Ypres in the Novotel Flanders Field. It's close to the main square and the menin Gate. I think my daughter was about 11 when we last went. Its a very moving experience. We stood at Passchendaele looking up the hill to the church over what is effectively a large, now pretty field, and it is almost unimaginable how many people died and were injured, fighting over that bit of land.

Thank you. Yes exactly. Ypres. So it sounds like you need a full day to have all these experiences. It's our main reason for visiting so don't want to cut it short. I'll check out the hotel you mentioned.
