Combining Japan with a beach

Has anyone been to Japan and could suggest another country to visit nearby with a beach where we could stay for a few days? We were thinking Indonesia but quite a long flight from Japan.

Any must sees in Japan also very welcome - it will be our first time there and super excited about going! We are travelling in August.

Why not Japan? It has some fabulous beaches — especially around Okinawa (heard fabulous things) and some of the islands in the Seto Inland Sea (I’ve been to Nao Shima and it’s beautiful)

We did our honeymoon in Japan a few years ago but decided to do the beach part elsewhere as Japan doesn't really offer the high end beach resort we were looking for. We went to Da Nang in Vietnam, and we loved it - we stayed at the Intercontinental Danang, but there are lots of nice resorts, and you're close to the UNESCO city of Hoi An for a fun day trip. And there were direct flights from Da Nang airport to Tokyo.

Have you looked at Okinawa? Part of Japan and has amazing beaches, the water is so clear!

Okinawa is definitely worth a look! As would be Guam/Saipan- American territories not too far away that have plenty of flights to/from Japan

I visited thirty years ago, staying with friends in Kobe. I had a Japan Railways pass (can only buy outside Japan) and that paid for itself on one trip down to Nagasaki. Also did Hiroshima and the temple island nearby, Nara, Kyoto, Himeji and several trips to Awaji Island. It was a fabulous time and has had ongoing influence on my life.

Could you do a stopover in Dubai, say? And use it to split the flight time as presumably direct is longer now with no flights over Russia.

Kamakura beach in Japan was amazing! I was there when it was cold but there was a surf school, amazing white sand- I could imagine it’s incredible in summer!

Kyoto survived the World War II bombings and so has a lot of historic sites. The Golden Pavilion is especially famous. There is no shortage of beaches in Japan but I couldn't make any recommendations.

It’s long, but a friend did Japan and Singapore, pictures very jealousy inducing and I want to do a similar trip. Was heavily planning it but will have to delay now for a few reasons - gutted!

Have a look at Jeju Island

Ishigaki-Jima in the Okinawa islands. Stunningly beautiful and lots more accommodation options than when we went 20 years ago. We stayed at the Club Med Kabira.
