Having been pestered by DS14 for months, I've just booked flights to Dalaman Airport on 2nd April for the 2 of us. It's just a flying 4 night visit from the Tuesday to the Saturday to fit in around other commitments but I am torn as to where to stay. I know it's super early in the year for Turkey, and we are not expecting swimming/sunbathing weather (although we remain hopeful) but we do want things to be open - restaurants, possibly trips running, but especially shops. In fact, the main reason for this particular trip is shopping for DS. He'll be wanting all the 'brands' - Moncler, Ralph Lauren, LV, Nike Jordans etc
I love the idea of Fethiye, which as well as looking amazing, is a proper working town so there will be bars/restaurants etc open. However, it seems that the majority of the shops are the real deal, and as we miss both the Tuesday market at Fethiye and the Sunday market at Calis, I am not sure what, if any, other options there are for buying the sort of stuff DS wants. I know Hisaronu nearby has more in the way of that sort of shopping but it seems many of the shops there don't open until end April/early May unfortunately.
So then I am thinking maybe Marmaris would be a better bet. Tour operators are selling holidays there for Easter holidays so I am wondering if that might mean more of a shopping opportunity eg the Grand Bazaar etc?
Does anyone have experience of both resorts in early April and can advise me which is best (for shopping)? Or even can just tell me about suitable shops/shopping areas in Fethiye?
I am hoping that as Easter is so early this year, the shops might open earlier than usual...
Slightly regretting my impulsivity in booking what is, on this occasion, ostensibly a shopping trip, for a time when the shops might not all be open! Still, it's working out cheaper all in than the 3 nights in Devon we did last Easter so we shall make the most of it.
