I'm thinking of a trip to Vietnam this year. Can anyone help with an itinerary, I'm thinking of spending 3 weeks there.

it's been a long time since I went & then i was there for two weeks but I travelled in to Ho chi minh and then travelled up from there to Hoi An and Hue and ended up in Hanoi. If I had had more time I would have gone on a boat to explore but sadly didn't.

One tip - if you buy water from a street vendor be careful. They sometimes fill up empty bottles with unsanitised water - this happened to me and I was very ill for 48 hours!

Find a small company who specialise in arranging trips to places around Indo China.

We went a few years ago with a small company based in Wales and it was fabulous. We had our own local drivers and guides for the trip which included Cambodia and Laos.

What month of the year?

I flew in to Hanoi and from there did a 2 night boat trip in halong bay which I would definitely recommend. Then went to phong na or bang national park (nice caves), Hoi An (definitely recommend), Nha Trang (was not bad but probably nicer beaches) and then to Ho Chi Minh City (recommend the cu chi tunnels and the war museum here) and did a 2 night trip to stay at a lodge in the Mekong delta which was really nice.

I did 2 weeks a few years ago.

Flew into Hanoi, then Ha Long, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City and finished off on a beach island Phu Quoc.

Got bus to Ha Long, did 2 nights on a beautiful boat but the rest of places I flew internally to as it’s super cheap and easy.

would recommend all places, although Ho Chi Minh wasn’t amazing I felt it was a must see.
