I am beyond excited! Just booked for a 2 week trip in Italy - 12 days in Sicily plus a couple of nights in Rome at the end. I've been wanting to go there forever!

I would really appreciate some wisdom from those who've been before of how to manage our little problem. This is DH, who is an archaeologist. "Oh but that must be fun, like being on holiday with Indiana Jones" I hear you cry.

I thought that when I married him but it turns out, instead of marketplace shootouts and supernatural artefacts it's actually very loooooooong days while he looks at obscure archeological sites, takes 600000 photos, and mutters things like "I see no justification at all for Brown's theories from the physical evidence here." and the kids hang around complaining that all their mates get to go to Spain and go to waterparks. (On the plus side he cooks dinner a lot more than Harrison Ford would and he's yet to serve monkey brains).

So as first timers we thought we'd give ourselves 3 locations & do day trips etc from those. We've split the time between Cefalu, Agrigento.& Syracuse.

I would LOVE any ideas/recommendations of non-archaeological things we can do from those places (although realistically Agrigento might be the archaeological part of the holiday). 11 yo DS is a massive foodie so loves anything fancy food-related. 15 yo DD is into baking and art. They both love swimming anywhere at all and are both fairly sporty and up for things like hikes.

Also we'll be in Cefalu over Easter so any recommendations about that would be great too. Will things be completely closed over the Easter weekend, will we need to totally self cater?

Thanks in advance
