Thinking about a semi guided trip to Ecuador specifically Quito , Guayaquil and the Galapagos. However reading the FCO advice re Guayaquil is concerning. I’m not generally a nervous traveller I’ve been to Lebanon for example but I prefer to be able to walk around than need a guide at all points

@Flamesatmytoes Chesper? You definitely cannot see as much? How could you?

It's def cheaper... hence my hoping for a big reveal 😃I wondered if you get more time on the islands, or perhaps evening walks that you don't get on a boat. Or some exclusive access - always the optimist!

@Flamesatmytoes You get more time on inhabited islands. However many have nowhere to stay at all. Except on a boat as they are uninhabited. So you will get to see the flora and fauna on a few islands but nowhere near as much as you would see on a boat going to various islands which are very different.

As you probably know, the flora and fauna isn’t the same on every island. I think if you have made the effort to get there, do a week on a boat. 2 weeks for enthusiasts. It’s quite a distance between some islands but you sail overnight. The very small boats are also very flexible in terms of anchorages and you really can see a lot without seeing another boat. Not sure evening walks add much to the pleasure of the Galapagos. Cannot remember doing one and there are strict rules to adhere to. Thats to protect the islands so fair enough.
