Accommodation in New York ... self catering/apartment

Can anyone recommend good options for apartments/self catering in New York. I'm going to look on AirBnB but I wonder if there are any specific New York websites/firms that are particularly good? We're considering a family trip to New York in the summer or possibly the October half term and I want to do some research. TIA.

AirBNB isn't an option for NYC:

Have a look at Jersey City where (I think) it's still legal if you're willing to get the PATH train into Manhattan.

Other option is to look at aparthotels i.e. serviced apartments such as Homewood Suites, Sonder etc.

The End of Airbnb in New York

Thousands of Airbnbs and other short-term rentals are expected to disappear from rental platforms as New York City begins enforcing tight restrictions.

We stayed in a great hotel that had a lounge and little kitchen. Will dig out name when home. It was on Murray Hill and very central.

Lots of the hotel suites we looked and the one we booked had mini kitchens which might suit you depending on how elaborately you want to cater.

We've stayed at Radio City Apartments a few times. It's a hotel but all the rooms have kitchenettes/seating/dining areas. It's very central, right opposite Radio City Music Hall on West 49th Street.

Thanks. So these are sort of chains? This is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for - as I have no idea what organisations are out there.

As a family, we have discovered that 3 nights is the absolute max we can cope with proper hotel living. None of us like it. We don't want the sort of facilities that allow us to cook 3 course meals, but we do like to be able to have flexibility and control especially as DD is a bit of a fussy eater and also has some intolerances.

eg, our perfect day in NY would most likely be something like brunch in the apartment. Then most of the morning/early afternoon out, probably getting a light lunch on the go. then back to apartment for a bit of R&R at some point, before going out to a show or a meal or activity in the evening. At least some of the time, we'd want to have eaten something light before going out vs eating an actual meal out.

I do like the idea of apart hotels - the best of both worlds.

This is where we stayed https://www.affinia.com/shelburne-hotel-suites/?ef_id=EAIaIQobChMI5fjppJe_gwMVk5pQBh2Q1w5PEAAYASAAEgJMKfD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!4840!3!685922609956!e!!g!!shelburne%20murray%20hill&utm_id=go_cmp-20897302037_adg-158051637020_ad-685922609956_kwd-91097121_dev-m_ext-_prd-_mca-_sig-EAIaIQobChMI5fjppJe_gwMVk5pQBh2Q1w5PEAAYASAAEgJMKfD_BwE&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PPC%7CGOO%7CSNYC%7CBRAND%7CAFFINIA_SHELBURNE%20%28UK-Canada-Promo-BoxingDay%29&utm_term=go_cmp-20897302037_adg-158051637020_ad-685922609956_kwd-91097121_dev-m_ext-_prd-_mca-_sig-EAIaIQobChMI5fjppJe_gwMVk5pQBh2Q1w5PEAAYASAAEgJMKfD_BwE&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5fjppJe_gwMVk5pQBh2Q1w5PEAAYASAAEgJMKfD_BwE It was perfect.
I’d suggest having breakfast/brunch out at a diner (you won’t need lunch afterwards) and then continuing on your way to sightsee.

I've also stayed in Radio City apartments, fabulous.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 02/01/2024 18:31

The Kimberly is nice and has suites. Look at Sonder too - they're trendy aparthotels/serviced apartments and there are a few around NYC.

We stayed in Affinia Gardens upper east side near to Central Park. Nearest we could get to an apartment- great kitchen, dining area, lounge, bedrooms and bathroom. Was great. Free bikes too.$$$$ supermarket nearby. We Decided against Radio City as really wouldn’t want to be based near Times Square, personally I wouldn’t want to be schlepping in from Jersey.

We stayed here at home2suites by Hilton. Our suite had a kingsize bed (amazing) and a double sofa bed (less good) I ended up sharing the sofa bed with DS because DD and DS kept rolling into each other in the middle and waking each other up.

It seemed like a cost-effective option, but less luxurious than I'd hoped from Hilton

These look great. Thanks for info.
