We have 4 dc and eldest are 30 and 26 and took both on a really decent holiday before they left
Only DS is 21 in 2024 and only has two weeks off as on internship year at Uni amd we'd like to take him amd his younger sister ages 14 on a really memorable trip
I was thinking of visiting the elephants (ethical sanctuary ) in Thailand / maybe doing some of the off touristy places and finishing with a week in a 5 star something on the beach?
Other thoughts have been Mexico (we all LOVE snorkelling) but I think it hurricane season , Egypt ?
Ideally would like a beach with lots of snorkelling but a villa or treehouse as we'd like the privacy of our own bedroom . Also dd aged 14 is autistic and will probably up and leave if she hears us breathe!
Budget is probably around £2k per person but less would be good !
Any ideas really welcome x

I went to Mexico last year and it was amazing!!! I went in winter though so it might be too scorching hot in summer… also my favourite place was Oaxaca, which is inland not beachy, although Huatulco nearby(ish) had good snorkelling and was less crowded than Cancun!

Thailand sounds like a good bet for what you want. Or a week doing the pyramids etc in Egypt and then a week in a 5 star there, Sharm El Sheik is supposed to be good for snorkelling. Indonesia? The Maldives?

My next bucket list trip is a Caribbean cruise hitting as many islands as possible - I’ve never done a cruise and want to try it!

Or Zanzibar? Don’t know much about it myself but it looks stunning

Ten days travellling in Sri Lanka (game parks, culture, lots to see and do) then a few days in the Maldives?

Some of those places above will be scorching or incredibly humid in August. I don't know about Sri Lanka, but Egypt will be 40 degrees and I think our summer is the rainy season in much of SE Asia, so just take a look at the temps and humidity and think about what your family will tolerate/enjoy. My kids can't cope at all with high temperatures or humidity, so it's something I spend ages researching before we book. I think Borneo is okay in Aug, if that appeals?

Mexico (Riviera Maya) is great in late July/ August - did it in 2019 and it only rained for a couple of hours one afternoon on a 2 week holiday.

Definitely pay to go swimming with whale sharks in the wild off Cancun - it’s once in a lifetime stuff. Also highly recommend snorkeling with turtles in the wild in Akumal and a trip to Sian Ka’an biosphere - we went snorkeling and as well as the most stunning coral I’ve ever seen we saw loads of amazing sea life inc puffa fish. Also saw crocodiles in the mangroves, dolphins and turtles.

And the food is amazing!

Thailand is rainy season in August and it RAINS. What about Bali? Dry season there and amazing!

I also second Sri Lanka. Half the country has great weather then
