Long haul flight, flying East: day or night flight?

What are your experiences with a small (5yrs old) child. Do you prefer longhall day flights or night flights when flying East! I personally can not sleep on flights, just intermittently in and out of sleep. But it's never been an issue on my own/ with adults. What's best for adjusting to the local time? Getting in after a night flight or arriving after a day flight?

We are flying from London to Delhi, its around a 9/10 hour flight time, and the time difference is (they are ahead) 5.5+ hours.

Night flights arrive at a convenient time, day flights arrive at around 1am, ( but I have transport whatever the time).

When we reach Delhi we have another 5 hour car journey to reach our destination. BUT We will probably stay in Delhi a day or two as I think its too long a journey for a 5 year old to do it all in one day.

Any experiences? Thoughts?
TIA
