We caught a but of a programme last year with Gordon Ramsey visiting resrayrants in Spain. In Malaga he went to one of the oldest tapas restaurants in the old part of the city which looked good, then went to a place on one of the beaches that served plates of tapas and charged by the number of plates. It looked incredible, and now you have reminded me, I'll have a search.

The other in the city was El Pimpi

Thank you both.

Another vote for El pimpi

Lots of lovely steak restaurants and tapas bars around.
El pimpi is the ‘place to go’ ( owned by Antonio Banderas) - I thought the tapas bar was good, inside just off the street at the back, but didn’t enjoy the restaurant as much. I felt the servers were a bit rushed / and rushing the customers.
The wine bar down by the port area was fantastic - they do iberico / meat platters, fish tapas, cheese platter, all sorts lovely wine and they also recommend wine to have with the food. https://www.anywaywinebar.com/

El Pimpi it is then. And I had already spotted the Anyway Wine Bar through reviews, so it’s great to get a personal recommendation- thank you @Crochetablanket and @dahliadiva

This one was recommended to me the other week (will be going in February )

We have been to El Pimpi. It was nice enough but very touristy. Earlier in the day we were on a free walking tour and this was the half way stop, for a free glass of wine or beer in the hope of enticing you back in the evening! Food was fine from what I remember but the place is very busy and I think you go for the atmosphere and the Antonio Banderas name rather than anything else.

Hope you have an amazing time wherever you end up. I love Malaga!

Love Malaga, lots of nice places just wandering around.

We had a FAB lunch last year at Uvedoble Taberna, very chefy tapas and larger plates but simple and unpretentious restaurant.

It's by the Museum of Malaga which is really worth a visit.

Go to a place called Casa Lola. Amazing Tapas there and brilliant service.
You MUST go to Casa Aranda for the best churros you've ever had! Can't wait to go back! Really great price too.
Have a great time! Would love to hear where you go. 😃

there are so so many restaurants! the market was good and you could get a tapas there.

we stopped for a drink at la fabrica de cerveza and thought it was a bit cool.

Pimpi is great, such a big place with loads of different sections and the food was much better than we expected when we were there last summer, having only been for drinks before. If you can get to meson Cervantes you won't regret it, their mixed tapas menu is outstanding they will bring each dish when it's ready but one by one. There are a few of them now, the original one is our favourite. There's also a great little deli/shop/bar called el almacen d'indiano where you can order little deli tapas dishes with a glass of wine whilst looking round the shop. Also highly recommended would be a tapas bar just off the main shopping street Calle larios called la taberna del pintxo larios. Have a wander round, choose your tapas (they also have dessert tapas) and the type of stick determines the price. And there is a fabulous "secret" cocktail bar the speakeasy "the pharmacy" near the bridge on the west side of town which we loved, the decor was very old school glam but not pretentious. Enjoy Malaga, we love it!

Sorry but I would only take restaurant recommendations from friends.. everyone has different tastes and standards.

Clementine8 · 20/01/2024 23:08

Another vote for casa arranda for breakfast or midday snack and if you like steak the blockhouse is amazing.

Second la fabrica in soho they often have live music and the atmosphere is fabulous. We liked the food in casa Lola but found the service particularly brusque. D bandera was also a great place!

pretty sure this is the one we went to several times. You had to book, and ask for the english menu which they had introduced recently. they converted me to pigs cheek. most of the restaurants didnt open till eight when we were there

Not a restaurant sorry but the Hamam Andaluz is INCREDIBLE. I’d go back to Malaga just to visit it again!

Do it ! I had a late booking and was so relaxed the next morning I had a super strong coffee which I almost never do
