Surfing holidays in Portugal - please help!

Hi, I am looking for a surf holiday for my family, including a 12 and 15 year old. Mixture of complete beginner and intermediate surfers. Can someone please advise on the best place and time to go.

Don't want anywhere too busy or commercialised. Looking for either April, May or October depending on when the surf is right! Have never been to Portugal so slightly clueless.

If you are flexible on timing why not email them (or whichever hotel you choose) and ask for their advice. They’ll know the conditions best.

Western Algarve is full of surf schools and surfers plus its pretty under developed. Try places around Sagres. Not a surfer myself so can't be more specific. Not sure but think you might find the south warmer than along the Silver Coast at those times of year.

We Liked Lourinha, easy access to Peniche but were glad we didn’t stay there. You have supertubos and Nazare nearby too. We went in August and weather wasn’t the best but great waves. Also look at Sagres about an ho it away from Faro, that has good waves too. Portugal is amazing and food fab!

Yes. It's a nice enough resort, lots of restaurants, a bit of a prom. We were only there for a couple of days which was unplanned as a visit to the Douro Valley went belly up. There's an article about it being Portugal's surfing capital but personally I prefer the Western Algarve. I can't find a link to the particular article I was reading but if you type in the name you'll get dozens of links with excellent pictures which should give you a good idea.
