Is it cheaper to add bags to an easyjet standard ticket?

Trying to book easyjet fare because it flies to the airport I need. I have 4 'essentials' fares which nearly doubles the ticket price from £400 to £766. I don't mind paying for luggage but it gives you 4 23kg bags when we only need 2. Previously travelled with 4 x 10kg cabin luggage. It's now more expensive to book cabin bags than it is to book hold bags.

Anyone any recent experience of booking standard fares and adding a couple of cases?

Booked EasyJet flights in December. I found that if you ignored the addition of bags when first offered, you had the option to add the number of hold bags you really need later in the booking process.

Thanks @Theforeverhome that's what I'm after really. I assume it still makes you pay for seat but gotta be cheaper than 2 extra hold bags.

@ZenNudist you have the option of paying for seats later in the process. However if you choose not to do so, Easyjet (unlike Ryanair) will seat those booked on the same booking together If there is space to do so. I fly regularly on Easyjet and never pay for seat selection. I always check in as soon as the online check in opens (which is 30 days before the flight) and I have never not been seated with my family.

Yes, if you ignore the request to add bags when it’s first presented and then later on they ask how many hold bags you want to add to the booking to attempt the upsell a second time. I was only booking for two people (1 hold bag) but I assume it would be the same for a larger group.

Just add the bags you need, i always book the cheapest fare then add one checked 23kg bag between us
