Train and car in the French alps - help, please

We’ve decided to travel by train this summer (did Paris/Ile de Re like this before) and have found lovely accommodation near Annecy and in Chaminox. I think we’ll need to hire a car, but how close can we get (on relatively fast trains) and where can we pick up a car?

We visit Cham and the Cham valley quite a lot, summer and winter. We either drive down in our own car or hire a car at Geneva. If going to Switzerland we get the train from Geneva (station in the airport). So if I were you, I would hire the car at the airport- it’s only an hour down to your destination and a bit of a faff on the train.

You can definitely get a fast train (TGV) to Annecy. You’ll probably need to change in Paris.

Thanks for the advice, but we’re trying to keep our carbon footprint down and really loved using the train last holiday, but we do live right near a fast line to St Pancras.
