self catering and bed and breakfast in one?!

We have never done a foreign holiday before as we have always done self catering cottages here. I simply cannot take another cold and rainy UK holiday but can't convince my family to leave these shores.
Is it possible to have a holiday where there are self catering facilities but also the option of having a bed and breakfast board basis? So we can make our own evening meals but still get a kind of hotel experience? I don't even know what to search for. We don't want to spend too much either...

Look for aparthotels which have self catering rooms (usually one bed apartments) but also do bed & breakfast or half board options. We've stayed in them many times in Spain/belearics/canaries.

Have you got a website you’d recommend?

We certainly did this at Viva Sunrise in Majorca some years ago https://www.jet2holidays.com/balearics/majorca/alcudia/viva-sunrise#tab-rooms
We book most of our holidays abroad through jet2 holidays, I think you can probably filter on room facilities?

At Crieff Hydro you can have a self catering cottage in the (large) grounds of the hotel, and also access to all the hotel facilities. We've done it where we have breakfast in our accommodation, then go out for dinner. No reason why you shouldn't do it the other way round, although I think fewer of the hotel restaurants are open at breakfast time.

I use a booking site such as booking.com as they
have good filters to narrow down your requirements. Then when I've found accommodation that looks good I look on the hotel's own website or other booking sites to see if it's cheaper.

Here's a search for one week in Majorca in June - filtered for self catering plus breakfast.

Help! Which property is best?

I found these great hotels on Booking.com and love them all. Help me decide which one to book!

Sorry, I don't think the filters worked when I shared the link. Click on 'filters' then scroll down and tick 'self catering' and 'breakfast included'

Obviously change the location, dates, size of group etc

It's always sunny in Crieff - guaranteed.😂

You bet me to it! Crieff has much to offer, but good weather is definitely not guaranteed 😂 Can't think of anything worse than traipsing over from the self-catering lodges in the rain for breakfast in the hotel either!

Mochudubh · 31/12/2023 18:22

When I was in Primary school we used to get bussed to Crieff Hydro once a week to go swimming. Except when the road was closed because of snow!

I think the pp may have been misled by the title of that well-known Proclaimers song "Sunshine on Crieff"

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/01/2024 09:21

🫢 sorry. I missed the bit about sunshine!

Definitely not always sunny in Crieff.
