Hi
Thinking of going to new York in either June or next December 2024.

has anyone seen any deals? The flights are cheap but hotels aren't.

I'm solo travelling

Stay further out and use the subway to get in, it will save you money on your hotel.

Another money saving tip is the Natural History Museum is 'pay what you can' if you go to a ticket desk rather than the machines you can just tell them how much you want to pay for your ticket.

Yeah I'm quite happy to get the subway in as I live in London so I'm happy to go further out

Financial district tends to be cheaper whilst being close enough to midtown via subway. I've done a few trips and I have to say staying centrally in mid town was definitely the most enjoyable, being able to walk and be close to the heart of everything, so I wouldn't compromise on location too much, especially as a solo traveller. I'm not much of a foodie on busy trips like this and managed to keep costs down by using subway (including from airport) and eating fast/street food (but still eating good food, delis, bagels etc).

Thanks I'm happy to travel in as I'm just used to that in London and did it in Paris and I loved it

Just be mindful of Subway on weekends, it's a bit of a pain in Brooklyn with engineering works (like London!) so research buses as well as subway, caught us out on 2 trips now.

Have a look at staying in jersey city and then you can use the midtown water taxi to get to manhattan

I stayed here last time I went.

I don't know what your budget is, but I found it to be a good compromise between budget and location for New York.

Rooms were tiny (we stayed in the Bunk Beds room - and with 2 people really not much room to manuvre! Some of the other room types look a bit bigger) and shared bathrooms , but you still get the Hotel vibe in a decent area. Quite an interesting backstory with the Titanic links too.

I would happily stay again.

I’ve been a few times, June over December would be my preference.
