Hi
Thinking of going to Geneva then lake Como next summer

Which lake como town is best that has good, accessible beaches ( ie not private, can go swimming etc), easy travel to different places to visit round the lake, good places to eat and stay, things to do ( eg rent boat on lake) etc

Ideally also can get there from Geneva by train

Any recommendations on best town please? Even better if you can please recommend a central apartment with pool!

Thanks in advance!!!

We stayed in a small town in the north eastern side of the lake. Think it was called Dorio. Tbh we chose it because of the apartment, which had stunning views. The town itself was quite small but pleasant enough. It had a train station which we used to travel along that side of the lake. I'm not sure if there's a railway on both sides of the lake. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Dorio, but it was good for public transport. We had our car with us (travelled via Zurich), but didn't really use it in Como as it was extremely busy in summer.

We stayed in Lenno which is a handy base for going up and down the lake and very pretty. We did a day at the town of Como and got a boat to Belaggio from Tremezzo.

One spot that's got some good vibes is the lake clementine trail. It's not too far from the lake, and it offers a more laid-back atmosphere compared to some of the busier areas. Plus, the views are stunning! You can find some cozy accommodations along the trail that give you that real Italian feel without breaking the bank. Check out some local B&Bs or small hotels for a more personal touch to your stay. Remember to book in advance, though, especially during peak seasons, 'cause places can fill up fast.

I’ve just googled, the Lake Clementine trail’s in the US. My guess is that it’s a stupid spam post.

I hope you have a brilliant time - I don’t have any advice on where to stay since I was on my own & stayed in a hotel, but it’s a wonderful area.

Lake Como is not well served with trains. I think you can get to Varenna (or Como itself) and access the rest of the lake by boat. We stayed at Hotel Villa Marie in Tremezzo, which was lovely. Family hotel with pool overlooking the lake.
