Sòller or Alcudia for 2.5-year-old?

I love Majorca and keen to get something booked in the January sale for an early July visit. I have one son who will be age 2.5. Trying to decide between Soller in the mountains because it’s beautiful, plus I remember some chic waterfront restaurant and it’s actually a bit cheaper. Or Alcudia. I last went when I was a teenager and loved the white, wide sandy beaches and shallow water, but not sure if the pandemic has hit it bad and whether some of the nice restaurants have gone now?

if you were looking for a fairly chic, not tacky holiday with nice eating options but also enough to keep a 2.5-year-old entertained, would you go for Alcudia or Sòller? Thanks

We love Majorca too. We’re a family of 4 with two DD’s who are 8 & 5. We went to Cala D’or last year & loved that area. Lovely coves, lots of restaurants & gorgeous marina. I think it’s very suitable for families.

Alcudia is a dump

Port de Soller is gorgeous and only half an hour from the airport. I think Alcudia is an hour or so? Your LO would like the tram up to the old town of Soller. I wasn't there with kids, so didn't notice if there were any playgrounds, but the beach is in a sheltered bay and is lovely, lined with excellent restaurants. My inlaws got badly bitten by mosquitos in Alcudia, I normally do,,but saw very few in Port de Soller.

Soller is much nicer. You can get the tram to the seaside or the little train to Palma.

Alcudia is a big resort, with lots of mini golf and fish and chips.

Porto Pollensa is near Alcudia, and lovely if you are near the pine walk. Formentor is a really smart resort, not that far from Alcudia, but quite expensive.

I have only stayed in Porto Pollensa of these, but we have driven to the others I have mentioned.

Of the two you mention, I would go with Soller.

@TheCryptozoologist can you expand? Genuinely haven’t been since about 1999.

That’s a good point @mirmc , he loves “choo-choo.” My sister was saying go to Alcudia for the Hidropark, but I think he’s a bit young and the sun exposure makes me feel a bit nervous (as much as I personally love a waterpark..!)

Okay, thank you so much. What’s the main difference between P. Pollensa and Alcudia if you had to describe it in a sentence? I’m in awe of the beaches of Alcudia if my memory serves, but I don’t really want to be a place where there’s English breakfasts, drunk people getting sunburnt – that kind of thing. It might sound a bit snobby, but I can see all those people here at home! 🥲
sister also just told me there is a town just south of Alcudia that’s quite a new resort, I think it’s called Playa Del Muro?

We go to soller at least once a year and my kids love it and have done from a young age (they are 5&7 now).

But we never do resort holidays!!

Soller has the tram, buses, some lovely little parks, a lovely beach at the port and beautiful mountain walks which our kids love. You can get boat trips to lovely little coves too.

The atmosphere at the square in soller is lovely, full of kids in the evenings all playing together. Lovely restaurants and cafes.

My kids are obsessed with climbing the mountains. Some lovely walks up to beautiful little villages.

I'd highly recommend it.

That sounds lovely! Where do you stay in Soller?

sellotape12 · 21/12/2023 10:35

Agree that sounds lovely @overmydeadbody . Good to know that there’s still plenty to entertain a toddler in Sóller. I’m also happy to take hotel
or apartment recommendations in Soller port or town. We previously stayed (pre kids) at Can Roses which was absolutely lovely, although not sure I’d do it with a toddler as there was no A/C.

We're lucky in that we have friends who live there who we stay with, so can't recommend places to stay.

It is so beautiful though!!

I think you've just described a few of the hotels in Alcudia so it may not be for you (I'm sure they aren't all like that but the one where we played mini golf certainly was). Alcudia old town is lovely though.

Puerto Pollensa a bit more upmarket - plenty of choice of hotels or self catering accommodation and restaurants . There is a long beach front which stretches around the coast to Alcudia a few miles away .

We visited Soller/Port de Soller on a trip by train from Palma and it was beautiful .
