Sharm el Sheik - Safe?

Hi mumsnetters,

I am looking for some advice....We went to a resort in Sharm El Sheik last year, we absolutely love it. We'd like to go back for this February half term.
Do you think it is safe to go there considering the conflict in Israel/Gaza? I know it is not that close but I am thinking more about potential attacks of extremists on tourists or something of the sort, there have been attacks on turists before in Egypt and Sharm has special protective measures because of that. Holidays seem to be much cheaper than last year and there has to be a reason for that!
Any thoughts?

I have friends there right now. They are having a ball.

Yes, just back, normal holiday, no mention of anything else happening, everyone just holidayed as normal. Security is always high in SES due to previous history. It didn’t put me off in the slightest.

Great to have other people's opinions. I'd like to go back as we loved it last year. Low prices are worrying me though, because that must mean that a lot of people have stopped going there

Glad to find this thread because I’m wondering the same.

I’ve never been to Egypt, but EasyJet holidays to Hurghada over New Year are discounted by between 30% and 50% just now. It would just be me and my 6yo going.

After doing some research, we've just decided to go to Hurghada or February half term

Just back from Sharm, was fine, we did go with TUI as part of a package for reassurance.

Boss is just back as he got an amazing deal.
had a great time felt totally safe.
Apparently it was pretty quiet, even the flights

I went years ago and wouldn’t go back but I wouldn’t deem it unsafe. Some people might think it not appropriate to be having a good time so close to such terrible things however

May I ask which resort you love OP? Also considering for Feb.

Conflict aside, be very careful going out of the hotel as a single mum. I did years ago albeit in Sharm, and have never felt so unsafe. This is coming from someone who has travelled numerous times alone in Europe and North America. Apparently travelling without a man when you have obviously had sex makes you a target 🙄

@minipie We went to Rixos Premium Seagate last year, it was really good.

We have decided to go to Hurghada this time, everything booked, I cannot wait!
