Can anyone help me decide? 🤞🏻😊

We're looking at a 2 night/3 day childfree break in January.

These are the locations that have flights that work best with our childcare arrangements for the weekend we go.

We're mid 30s, we like to explore, drink nice coffee, eat good food. We're not into museums as such but happy to view architecture and wander around historical sites.

Would like it to be warmer than the UK, but I also understand some places will still be chilly.

@dreamingofsun - what apartment did you use in Malta please ?

dreamingofsun · 12/12/2023 16:47

medianewbie - sorry this was a few years ago. It was on the opposite side of the water to valletta - so from the massive pool you could overlook the city across the water. It was above the Point Shopping Mal, right on the tip of the headland. I would have booked it via trip advisor probably - so you might be able to do a map search. It was very roomy and had lots of granite/marble and nice sofas. Pool area had a sort of country club feel - but i didnt realise when i booked you had only a few free entry tickets to it, which would have made the holiday costly for a family and you had to access it via the shopping centre which was odd.

Valletta is utterly gorgeous and has the most fascinating scenery. I found the food great and very reasonably priced. I think Barcelona is a dodgy weather wise in January and Faro doesn't have enough for a winter city break. Seville is a great choice too.

100% Seville! Just got back 3 weeks ago! We had an amazing child free weekend.
We stayed in Santa Cruz which is beautiful and walking distance to everything.
Loads to see, loads of bars, restaurants and cute shops.
The bull ring, cathedral and flamenco are worth a look. Also stunning palaces and gardens.

We have stayed in the Hotel Las casas.. super

medianewbie · 13/12/2023 01:44

@dreamingofsun sorry didn't realise it was ages ago - that's an impressive recall & it sounds fab !

I know you’ve said you’re going with Seville. I’ve not been and after looking at this it’s on my list for our next kid-free break! My partner and I just got back from a 3 night break to Barcelona and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were lots of jazz bars for live music in the evenings. Utterly amazing tapas. And lots to see and do. Weather was about 15 degrees.

They all look lovely but some are a bit further out.
As it’s only a couple of nights I’d probably try to stay as near the cathedral as possible, there’s a warren of narrow streets all around and hundreds of fabulous places to shop and eat and watch the world go by.

this place is a phenomenal experience, it’s not as hip as all these apartments so if up-to-the-minute decor is high on the list it may not be your thing at all but it’s so romantic it actually made me cry a little bit 😂

I've stayed there! Isn't it lovely?

Hotel Amadeus which is close by is good too but smaller.

Seville was on C5 tonight, Michael Portillo's programme.

We've been to Seville, Barcelona and Valletta and loved them all but Seville would get my vote overall.

Ladyj84 · 13/12/2023 03:30

Malta Malta Malta btw your options won't be very warm any off them in January and don't forget most places will be closed. Anyway Valletta is amazing, bus routes are great and cheap, architecture amazing and history

GreatGateauxsby · 13/12/2023 03:41

Seville is the right answer 😉

Go to espacio eslava if you can. Just incredibly tasty tapas.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 13/12/2023 03:44

We went the January before lockdown and were sat in the Hercules square in t-shirts, drinking orange wine. Amazing weather and surrounds.

We stayed at Patio de la Alameda and it was right near the centre, within walking distance of everything.

Maddy70 · 13/12/2023 03:47

A day In Valletta is enough. Seville and barcelona are wi derful but seville would be my top recommendation

Panastasia · 13/12/2023 03:47

I saw the heading for this Thread, and thought it was a girls names thread. I was going to vote for Valetta.

Wishingonaplane · 13/12/2023 09:05

Thanks so much everyone! I took the plunge and booked it last night 😍this will be our second date "night" since our youngest was born 18 months ago.
As you can tell I'm making the most of it 😂

Yea, OP, how exciting !!!

medianewbie · 13/12/2023 15:17

@Ladyj84 - I can travel to Malta in Jan OR May, but the latter date is twice the price of the former date. Is it worth it do you think in terms of things being open ?
