Italy - football related

Looking at booking 2/3 nights in Italy as a Christmas present for my 11 year old son. We would want to go and visit a stadium as he is football mad. I was thinking maybe Napoli? Are there any other areas of Italy to consider where we would combine a stadium visit?

The stadium tour of the San Siro in Milan is brilliant! It's also the home of two teams - Milan and Inter Milan.

Rome?
Not sure about a stadium tour. We went to a CL game when we were in Rome and tickets were really easy to buy once there.

I would second the stadium tour at San Siro in Milan as it is in English and very well done.

Re Napoli/Naples the stadium is only open during match days. There is no tour available, nor is there a club museum. This will change soon, though, if reports are to be believed. There are plans for both a Napoli club museum and a Diego Maradona museum in the stadium. It is still Naples, though, so it might take a few more years, of course…

The Juventus stadium tour in Turin looks good as well.

If you are set on Italy, then I'd definitely do Milan over Napoli. My 22 yo DS has been to Milan and done the stadium tour, and loved it. He went to Naples for a football match, and was chased down the road by locals on mopeds. I appreciate it was a match day, but he wasn't in a football kit, was well away from the stadium at the time, and was just walking back to his hotel, but it really wasn't safe. He was lucky he was so near to his hotel, and he was able to run there, but he did get injured. Also, Naples is a bit of a dump compared to Milan (although it is a good base to go out to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Vesuvius etc)

If it doesn't have to be Italy, the Camp Nou tour in Barcelona is great. It can also be fairly easy to get tickets to a game there, depending who's playing at the time.
