Baby doesn’t have EHIC/GHIC card

I’m going on holiday today but completely forgot to get an EHIC/GHIC card for my baby. I can’t believe this, I’m normally super organised!

I’ve applied now but obviously the card won’t come in time, if baby does need treatment abroad will I be able to apply for a PRC or does the card have to have been issued before this can be applied for?

The application number should be enough if you call the number on the back of your card and quote it, do you also have health cover on travel insurance ?

Regardless of EHIC/GHIC, you need private health insurance.

Thank you, yes adding him to my travel insurance was one of the first things I did when he was born.

If you require treatment but don't have the physical card, you can apply for a Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC). This provides you with the same cover as the card, but you only apply for it if/when you require treatment. So as long as baby has been added to your record, you should be covered.
