Booking a week long holiday in a lodge with family. But some are only staying a few days .

Hi so 5 of us are going away in total for a week in a holiday home. 3 people have said they only want to do 3 nights now. Which is fine by us, we still want to go for the week. The total cost of the stay £1550 .

How would you decide how much they should pay ? Maybe this is more of a maths question actually 🤣🤯

Is it a property that you can book for just three days, or do you have to book the whole week? If the latter, I’d say everyone pays the same price regardless of how long they choose to stay for.

Rafting2022 · 07/12/2023 23:20

£193.75 per night each.

Zonder · 07/12/2023 23:21

Probably add up the total number of people nights and divide up. So if there are 2 people for 7 nights and 3 for 3 nights that would make 23 nights. I'd divide the total by 23 and charge each person for however many 23rds they stayed for.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/12/2023 23:23

Per room for the week.

Zonder · 07/12/2023 23:23

Rafting2022 · 07/12/2023 23:20

£193.75 per night each.

😮

I made it £65 per night each.

Talipesmum · 07/12/2023 23:27

Is it 5 people for a week, and 3 people for 3 days?
or 5 people in total, 3 of whom are going for 3 days and the remaining two are going for a week?

Soontobe60 · 07/12/2023 23:28

I disagree. If all parties planned to stay for a week initially, then the place was chosen on that basis but some changed their minds later, all parties should pay an equal amount regardless of how many nights they stay.

😮

I made it £65 per night each.

Edited

This is why kids are taught to show their working!!

CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:28

2 people doing 7 nights, plus 3 people doing 3 nights = 23 nights being spent there in total.
1550/23 = 67.40 per person per night
The people staying 7 nights pay 471.74
the people staying 3 nights pay 202.20
(although thinking about it the week people may only do 6 nights I guess so recalculate on that basis if so)

CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:30

(Also I really think everyone should pay an equal split if they originally said they would go for the whole time and have now changed their mind!)

Scarlett89 · 07/12/2023 23:32

Your right I didn't explain that properly at all, I will edit.
It's 2 people doing 6 nights and 3 people doing 3 night.

OP posts:
Scarlett89 · 07/12/2023 23:33

Sorry I should have explained better.
So it's 2 people doing 6 nights. Then the the other 3 people doing 3 nights.

OP posts:
CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:35

Ok so
2 people doing 6 nights, plus 3 people doing 3 nights = 21 nights being spent there in total.
1550/21 = 73.81 per person per night
The people staying 6 nights pay 442.86
the people staying 3 nights pay 221.43

Scarlett89 · 07/12/2023 23:36

5 people in total.
2 people are doing 6 nights
3 people are doing 3 nights.

OP posts:
fourelementary · 07/12/2023 23:36

It’s £310 per day
so the 3 people staying 3 days are paying £310/5 (£62) x3= £186 as are the other two for those 3 days.
then people 4 and 5 pay £310/2 (£155) x2 plus their £186 which is £486

496 + 496 + 186+ 186 + 186 = 1550

PuttingDownRoots · 07/12/2023 23:38

Its not exactly fair on the people staying longer to have to pay for a bigger property than they need as some people have changed their minds

CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:38

Agree that @fourelementary’s approach could also work but that seems even more unfair on the people staying longer now the others have changed their minds!

fourelementary · 07/12/2023 23:38

Scarlett89 · 07/12/2023 23:36

5 people in total.
2 people are doing 6 nights
3 people are doing 3 nights.

Oh. Ignore my calculations for 5 nights but it’s the same principle. Slightly more tricky numbers with each night being £258.33333333 lol

grumpycow1 · 07/12/2023 23:39

If the number of nights was previously agreed and can’t be amended, just split the £1550 amongst the 5 people. It’s not fair for them to change their mind and make it more expensive for the others.

fourelementary · 07/12/2023 23:39

CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:38

OP didn’t say what the agreement was initially and that they’re fine with it. So… fine/fair?

CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:43

Well she said they originally booked for a week and now some of them have changed their minds and only want to go for three days. It’s seems pretty unfair that the two who are keeping to the original commitment have to not only pay twice as much, but actually even more than that as they have “exclusive use” for three days. But you are right of course that OP may be fine with that, and I realise I am projecting 😂😂

Bournetilly · 07/12/2023 23:43

Did the people staying 3 nights originally agree to stay 6 nights? And would the people staying 6 nights of stayed somewhere cheaper if they knew? If yes then I don’t think it should be split equally, the people staying 3 nights should pay more.

If they always said 3 nights then split equally as people have said.

Talipesmum · 07/12/2023 23:43

CuriousGeorge80 · 07/12/2023 23:35

Yes. So in total, the 6-nighters pay £886 and the 3-nighters pay £664.

kitchenhelprequired · 07/12/2023 23:50

Is the booking cancelable? If everyone agreed to a week prior to booking and it can't be cancelled then it should be split equally as decided prior to booking. If it can be cancelled then those who would now incur higher costs than they initially agreed to as a result of others now wanting a shorter stay should decide if they want to pay more and if not cancel. If it can be booked for 3 nights I would look at that cost and split 5 ways then split the difference between 3 nights and a week 2 ways. There will be a baseline cost for booking any number of nights (cleaning, rental admin, energy etc) so it's not a simple as totalling number of nights and dividing by each persons nights stay.

SecondUsername4me · 07/12/2023 23:51

Every adult pays an equal split of the weeks cost.
