Lanzarote: Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen?

Looking for some winter sun. Fancying Lanzarote. Have been recommended either Playa del Carmen or Playa Blanca by different friends. Only adults, no children.
We don't need clubs but want it to have a bit of a buzz, don't want it too quiet. Need good restaurants and a nice town to walk around of an evening.
We like being by the sea but don't spend time on the beach.
What are the pros and cons of each resort? Or any others we should consider?

Whilst this will largely be a 'chill in the sun' holiday, we wouldn't spend the whole time by the pool and would like to visit lovely towns and villages/ sights etc so any recommendations would be appreciated (not water parks)

Thanks everyone for your input. We ended up going for the accommodation we found in PDC as it’s a bit out the centre so not right in the busy part I think.

We stayed at the Radisson Blu in Costa Teguise earlier this year. Loved the hotel, lovely rooms, huge balconies with sunbeds, sea views, adult only, great staff, good food. It's a 15 minute or so walk into the main town with bars and restaurants fir every budget. Only 15 mins from the airport. Easy bus trip to Arricife for a traditional city. Small town of Teguise a few miles inland with a huge market. The only thing I wasn't so sure on was the resort was purpose built in the 70s, initially as a luxury resort, so lacks a bit of old character, but it is spaciously laid out, a square built in traditional style with live music most nights, several bars with entertainment. But the best bit was the hotel. It was fab for an adult only break. I like Playa Blanca, not so keen on PdC, but I haven't stayed there.
