What do I tell the school?

We are pulling my DD5 (year 1) out of school for 7 days to go on an extended holiday at Christmas. What do I write to the school? Do I ask for permission or just inform them about what we are doing? If they don’t allow it (I don’t expect them to) then we will be doing it anyway so I’m not quite sure what to say!

Just tell them what you’re doing. They can’t/won’t authorise holiday in term time so no point asking really.

I just email saying just to let you know that my children will not be in school on such and such dates etc.

Usual protocol is you request a holiday (probably a form to fill in, which the school office can give you)
Headteacher refuses the holiday, and may call you in for a talking to.

You go anyway.

You may get a fine.

You come back and life returns to normal
