Will love holidays send debt collectors?

Bellax123 · 21/11/2023 12:03

I am seeking some advice regarding a love holidays holiday.
My situation is iv paid a deposit and have 2 installments to pay before my holiday was scheduled on 14th January 2024.
Now really suddenly my circumstances have massively changed and i cant afford or go away in January.
On speaking to love holidays my holiday is 'non refundable' so i would be required to pay the whole balance to cancel.
The only options they gave me where to move the holiday (which will cost another 1000+) or pay off the cancellation fee in installments, neither i can do.
I am wondering if you know what will happen when they try to take the money out of my account for the holiday and it bounces because i cant afford it?
Iv read online that the holiday will get cancelled but am i going to get debt collectors chasing the money?

I am facing something similar , but I noticed awful pictures had been put up of the current state of a 5 star I booked for my young family and I complained to love holiday that this wasn’t safe and they still wanted £1600 to cancel my holiday, I have only paid £100 so far so what would happen if I just don’t make anymore payments, technically I have never signed anything

Unfortunately you have signed something by accepting the terms and conditions at the time of booking. I expect that Love Holidays will want the total deposit you committed to (although didn't have to pay at the start) as they'll have paid at least the airline in full for your flights.

I fully expect that they'd chase missed payments.

A lot of holiday companies now offer initial very low deposits to attract bookings, but you are still committed to paying the usual deposit amount, whatever that may have been.

Can Love Holidays change the hotel for you instead of cancelling? They would likely still charge an admin fee. But take all reviews with a huge pinch of salt anyway!

A change of hotel was applied for and they are asking extra £2000 on top

If you name the hotel (maybe on a new thread so it doesn't get conflated with this one) you might find Mumsnetters that have been recently for honest reviews?

hi - how did OP get this resolved? we're having the same issue and Love Holidays have been horrendous. Did they sent credit agencies? We've been trying to cancel for 4 weeks and have been misinformed and treated appallingly despite sharing medical evidence around need to cancel. Deposit of £343 was paid - they managed to cancel the hotel but are chasing us for £2800 flights to be paid for 7 passengers in total despite none of us going and originally being told they'd cancel with no charge given circumstances.

Flight is due to take off this Saturday 13th and we wont be going, obviously, but wonder whether (despite our best efforts to work with them to rearrange it after being told they wont cancel now) they'll take our £343 deposit and we call it quits or whether they'll continue to chase for the £2800. Etihad (the airline) i spoke to said they'd have cancelled for free given the circumstances but cant act as it was booked via Love Holidays or their intermediary, honestly, they are a disgrace.

Does your holiday insurance cover you?

Travel insurance doesn't cover being a bit skint. It might cover redundancy, as that's reasonably unforeseeable, depending upon when the insurance was taken out, but not 'I can't really afford it now'.

Amazes me how many people sign up for these things without checking the terms.

Yes while you pay the low deposit , you are liable for much more if you cancel . I agree it's deceptive .
However , if your package includes flights it is understandable as most airlines will not refund once booked . So obviously when you commit to a booking with flights , you have agreed to pay for said flights .
