I’ve been once before and dh has never been. We want to keep costs down. We can either do 3 nights: two full days and one half day. 4 nights: 3 full days. Cost is about the same

  1. There's masses to see and do but it's also a long way to go just for 2 full days.

At least 4. Once you've paid for the flights you might as well get a proper holiday out of it! Plus there's so much to see that's free, you can really make the most of it.

Sorry should have added that we’re then flying up to Canada to visit friends for a week, so not going all that way for 3 nights.

I've been twice before for 3 nights and managed to do loads in that time. I am quite used to planning jam packed itineraries to get to more places, but am about to go to longer ( But pretty much doing the same things I've done before!)

I guess it depends how tight your budget is, I doubt one night will have a much of a financial impact but will give you a good bit of extra time, we were limited by the time we had to go on holiday as opposed to finances. Write a list of what you want to do and put it in an itinerary and work out if it's enough time?

What time of year?

I think 4. When you look at the travel time 3 days won't give you much and will be pacey. Also you will have jet lag to factor into the mix too.

Time of year will massively affect the price you pay for hotels. As will the area - Times Square is more expensive, but it is a nice first timer spot. I can recommend the Citizen M there, it's compact but sexy and has a massive pull out drawer under the bed for additional storage.

Or I'd just go to another area that's near to a subway station but still in mid town or so
