How much would a holiday to Rocky Mountains in Canada cost?

My son is obsessed with going to the Rocky Mountains. I don't know why, he's just got a thing about it.

If we went for a couple fo weeks to Canada, with flights, excursions and accommodation/food etc, how much would we be looking at for 3? I haven't been to Canada since I was in my twenties - many years ago - and I've no idea how expensive it is now.

I suspect it is very expensive...

But is it amazing?

Thanks!

What would you want to do when you are there? Would you be happy to rent a car?

Yes, a car, some excursions - I'd love to take the glass train i've seen on social media.

I haven't given it much thought - just wondered generally if it was a mega ££ trip

The Rocky Mountaineer (train trip) is mega expensive and mainly for retirees in my experience.

Getting to that side of Canada is expensive but the scenery, wildlife etc are fantastic. Eating out approximately the same as SE England, accommodation varies.

We did it last year, flew direct to Calgary with WestJet. Then stayed in Brookes for 3 nights to see Dinosaur provincial park and do the guided tours there. We did the Royal Tyrell Museum on the way to Edmonton for the university museum and Fort Edmonton and then on to Jasper for 3 nights and did various hikes and boat trip on Lake Maligne. We then drove to Canmore stopping at various canyons, waterfalls etc and did the Athabaska glacier bus. We stayed in Canmore for 3 nights and again did loads of hikes and the Gondola in Banff. We then stayed in Calgary for 5/6 nights to do Stampede, museums etc. we would have liked to drive to see Head Smashed In but after all the driving I couldn’t face anymore.

The Rockies are amazing, we were in awe everywhere we looked and it was the best holiday I’ve ever been on but I wouldn’t do Edmonton again. It cost over €10k for 3. Also everyone we met was lovely from staff to all the other tourists.

@APMom6 how did you find / book your various canyons / waterfalls? We’re going to Calgary in the summer and want to organise a trip to Canmore but never have time to sit & browse for hours. Any recommendations would be gratefully received!

We also spent half a day at Winsport in Calgary where you can do loads of activities at the Olympic park, super fun.

i did some research before going but we decided where we were going the night before each hike which was good because some areas were closed for maintenance I mainly googled the hikes or got recommendations from hotel staff and other tourists.
