Oh help please! I just dont know what to take, there will be no washing machine, and Im total total total clean freak, Im cacking meself already.

anyway, I can do minimal - at a push, but what would you pack for:

  1. yourself
  2. partner
  3. 4 yr old boy
  4. 2yr old girl

Yours, in desperation!

You can minimise washing by just having them in swimsuits or sunsuits all day long - rinse them out each evening, leave to dry - take a couple of sets. Then you need only have two/three other outfits.

Wolfgirl · 11/03/2008 15:34

Do you dress them up at night? Ive not taken little ones abroad before now. DH is the kind of bloke to stay on the beach all day and go for dinner, straight from the beach all smelly and unwashed. I prefer to go back to appt, wash and scrub up, then go out. And then I would put LO's in nice clothes.

but then I have to think of luggage allowance, by the time Ive packed my lilo, their bucket and spade. I dont think I have a clue about all this.... somehow LOL

Presume you're self-catering? Whenever you're eating in of an evening, I'd go straight from sunsuits to pjs. With a beach towel swathed round if you want to keep pjs clean.

For going out, I'd have a dark (or very patterned) sweater or similar each & use it as a sort of tarpaulin - clothes underneath stay clean so can be worn several times. (They won't want a sweater except in the evening.)

PS all of this is for your children - not suggesting you & dh eat meals covered up in beach towels

You - Plan a capsule wardrobe. It sounds cheesy but I start with one item like a red bag or yellow flip flops and make sure that everything matches that. You don't need more than two pairs of shoes (and I'm a shoe freak!!) but comfy for day and sandals for night will do. (Gold or silver match everything).

DH - two pairs of shorts, 4 t-shirts, 2 short-sleeved shirts for going out and a pair of Dockers/chinos/linen trousers.
Birkenstocks for day and night. (Maybe travel in trainers)

DS - 2 pairs shorts, 1 pair jeans (can travel in them) 5 t-shirts, one hoody, 1 shirt if you want him to be snart (or polo shirts look lovely) 2 pairs swim shorts/sunsuit. Sandals, travel in trainers.

DD - 4 pairs crop trousers, shorts or skirts, 2 dresses (can wear in evening), 5 t-shirts/tops, hoody or cardie. Sandals, travel in trousers, trainers. 2 pairs swimsuit.

Am just about to go away and my family is same as yours! Have bought towelling beach cover-ups for DC here Next also do these but cheaper I just discovered.

Am assuming you're going for 7 nights, you'll need more if 14. You can always handwash if you really need too. Don't let your DH take too much!! Mine packs loads and wears the same shorts and t-shirt all week! Same goes for me really!

Bink , I have thought of the eating out, and have aprons!! plus a tommy tippee bib for 2 yr old.

themildmanneredjanitor - accommodation is SC, but Im thinking being Corfu, and the price we paid, it will be VERY basic. Not sure there will be much room to do hand washing either, other than rinsing.

OK, I have put a list together, and thought about the kids first, so:

DD - 5 nice evening outfits; 4/5 pairs of scruffy shorts/skirts/ etc and several vest tops, and a couple of long sleeve cool cotton tops, swim nappies, floaties swimsuit, and other accessories

DS - 5 nice shorts and tops; 4/5 scruffy shorts / tops; couple of sweaters and long sleeve tops, swim wear.

but will 5 nice outfits each, be enough for 14 nights, or am I being a bit tight? Its not as though I dont have clothes for them, grief, they coming out my ears..... so I can take more.

And what about towels? The appts only give you little scrappy things, so thought Id take one bath towel each, plus 4 hand towels. is that too much?

abigaillockhart - a handbag????? i do rucksacks, I dont have a handbag!! can you believe it! or shoes/sandals. same old sturdy paid. BUT!!!!!! I'm a changing, and going off to treat myself, and that includes a beauty treatment of fake tanning (oh yessss), hair done, two new bikini's, new sandals and a couple of new tops. I have a pretty decent summer wardrobe, but Im quite a basic person, I guess due to me spending every dime on the LO's and limited wardrobe space. But Ive got a £100 to spend, not a lot, please!! I know

DH is worse than me, which makes me feel better LOL

Bink - lol @ the beachtowel evening wear

Bink · 11/03/2008 16:00

Absolutely agree about not taking beach toys - get them there - and get towels there too - every single postcard stand will also have cheap towels for sale, for beach & for apartment too. Only problem is that the children will want to bring them home as souvenirs ...

abigaillockhart · 11/03/2008 16:02
