If you want to go to Greece, check this web site out {http://www.agni.gr/message_boards/display_cat.asp?ForumCat=2 Here]]

It might be worth looking at their villas, then getting your own flight, often works out the same as a package hol or cheaper. It was too late for us, we only found the site after booking.

We are going with Cosmos, Yiannis appartments

They look very basic, and we paid £1540 for 2 adults and 2 kids, 14 nights SC, with meal on plane which I wish I hadnt booked, cos they a rip off. But we also used our Tesco vouchers as part payment, so got the holiday even cheaper, else we couldnt have afforded it.

Has just dawned on me that this matches us when we went to Corsica a loooong time ago (also washing-machine-less, though would not describe self as clean freak, exactly).

I'll dig out this evening my packing list from then - it might be helpful (and if not helpful, nostalgic). I remember I had a lovely big fine-straw hat.

Oh yes - for you: don't build your holiday wardrobe around turquoise. There is a particular Englishwoman Vacation Turquoise (frequently with Bronze Accents) thing which is not, I think, flattering. Much much nicer is very pale pink.

General stuff:

remember your sunglasses

pack loads of stuff to play with and snacks for the flight

I know this is v boring but I take some tupperware tubs for beach snacks; chopped fruit, etc

again boring and maybe nuts, I take some kiddy-size hangers, cos there's no way I iron things twice

For 2-yo maybe a plastic bowl/plate/her cutlery

little travel first aid kit

One year when we went they lost most of our luggage, thankfully we got DD's suitcase. We wished we had put at least one change for each person it in each piece of luggage...

Just haven't done it with children. We took DS when he was 18 months but only to Ireland and he spent the whole time standing up saying "iya, iya" People behind us thought it was cute for about 15 minutes...!

DH gets stressed if he thinks the kids are bugging everyone else - I think he remembers travelling in pre-children days!

Some top tips Carnival - wouldn't have thought of Tupperware. Also a friend suggested spreading out luggage in case of lost luggage.

Wolfgirl · 11/03/2008 16:19

Carnival tupperware tubs, good idea, was thinking of those for flight, but might take extra. and whats this about ironing? We dont iron at home LOL let alone on me hols. what are you thinking my dear I too was also thinking about a few hangers for each of us, yes! they do lack hangers these mediteranean peoples, dont they?

Oh, if we're doing general useful things, I always take a couple of those foam doorstopper horseshoes (you get them in the Boots child safety bit) - they have been invaluable on every single holiday we've had.

Do a search on Marina & holidays - she has a nifty self-catering emergency kit I remember - includes a nice sharp knife (so it'll have to go in your suitcase) and, I think, ice-cube bags? Something like that. Plus other clever items.

abigaillockhart · 11/03/2008 16:24

Ice-cube bags! Fab.

What are the current restrictions on airlines? Can you bring your own snacks onto the flight? Was thinking blueberries, apples etc.

Wolfgirl · 11/03/2008 16:34

and what about sundowners!!!!!!!!! what about those then, eh! ooooohhh scrummy, and picking at pistachio nuts, fighting for the last one! LOL

cut & pasted ...

"Klippits, proper corkscrew and can opener, swivel peeler, two small sharp knives, kitchen timer, matches, j cloth, scrubbing pad, ice-cube bags, all packed in a Tupperware"

copyright Marina (or technically & complicatedly, Mumsnet, is it?) - well, anyway, not passing this off as my own!

Wolfgirl · 11/03/2008 16:35

oh lordy, Passports, must go check mine is in date!
