Staying for a week in late January - chosen the city as whilst we’d like some sun a beach resort isn’t really us. What trips would you recommend?

These are not cities just holiday islands

Muddle2000 · 12/11/2023 07:37

I think you would be better off in
Lanzarote as more to do on the island as a whole

🤨 Las Palmas is the capital city of Gran Canaria...

LoudSnoringDog · 12/11/2023 07:53

Las Palmas is the historical “capital” of Gran Canaria island

it’s really lovely. Lots of history

LoudSnoringDog · 12/11/2023 07:55

Sorry was responding specifically to Muddle2000

Yes - I chose the capital specifically. I was meaning outside of that where to go, there’s buses to most of the island.

Take the bus to Puerto de Mogan! Absolutely gorgeous beach town with flowers everywhere. Like you I'm not really a resort person but I loved staying there. It's sheltered from the wind so it has the best weather on the island. If I were you I'd do a few days in Las Palmas and a few days in PdM. You can also get the bus to the dunes (which I didn't end up doing because I loved PdM so much)! I did a bus tour to the mountains too from Las Palmas which was lovely.

The troglodyte dwellings at Galdar are really interesting.
