Taking cash, Australia

Does anyone bother taking local money these days? I'm visiting Australia soon, my family there only use cards but have any visitors needed to use money?

I didn't use cash at all when I was there a few months ago. Seriously. Nothing at all. The only place I visited that wanted/preferred cash was some of the craft stalls in Salamanca market charged less if you used cash rather than card.

never needed to use cash when i was there earlier this year

Lots of places won’t even accept cash these days, I had some leftover from a holiday where I took Aus $ and didn’t change it and it was a pita to get rid of it tbh. Unless there is another Optus outage of course 😂

Sorry, just realised the Optus comment may not make sense to you. One of our major Telcos had a serious outage the other day so a lot of EFPOS machines didn’t work.

Oddly enough, the Optus problems did make the news here in the UK too.
