Holiday you want vs Holiday that saves money

We have two holiday choices.

Holiday A: Long haul culture trip with a bit of beach. Will cost roughly £2,500 for flights and accommodation.

Holiday B: Long haul beach trip. Will cost £1,200 for flights. Accommodation would be free of charge staying with friends at their gorgeous villa. Obviously we'd take them out for dinner etc to thank them.

I want Holiday A as it's a country I've always wanted to visit but dh wants Holiday B as it's cheaper and will be nice to socialise.

I would do villa this year like he wants (might not be available next year?), and your trip next year, if that's an option?

Holiday A. staying with friends, although nice, is not as relaxing.

Even on holiday B I'd be inclined to do maybe a week at villa, a week at hotel

They both sound amazing and I can't believe those prices!! Presumably that's the benefit of booking outside school holidays - we've been doing it for so long I've lost sight of off peak costs
