Is this a doable train itinerary - Geneva, Vienna and Genoa?

I'm trying to please 2 dc who want different things, one of whom is drawn to the historical features of Vienna and Genoa and one of whom wants the mountain scenery of Geneva and its environs and who also desperately wants to go on a sleeper train, which I believe would be possible for the Vienna to Genoa leg. Basically, they are three places we would all love to go to and dc quite like the idea of long train journeys, though I suppose the novelty would perhaps wear off so maybe we should choose closer destinations. Overall, Geneva is the must-have though and we can be away for 12 days or so.

I have started looking at inter-railing and it is frying my brain but I think I would need to wait for the tickets to come out and make a decision from there if I do stick with this plan. Any thoughts/suggestions would be so much appreciated.

I don't know how doable it is but have you looked at https://www.seat61.com/index-mobile.htm
which is pretty good for itineraries and advice.

We got inter-rail tickets for the first time last year and it was initially brain frying but, having got over that, the rest was pretty straightforward, especially with the app. Tip : make sure you've downloaded all your tickets before you get on the train! We did home to Venice via Switzerland, though not sleeper as we like to see the scenery and overnight in hotels.
We love train holidays in Europe - you see so much more and the trains are usually much better than here.

You can get a sleeper to Vienna from either Brussels or Amsterdam (so connects easily with the Eurostar). I would probably then do the Austria/Italy/Switzerland bit by day train and home from Geneva via Paris but you'd have to look at the detail of how it all fits together. You will need to fit everything around the sleeper trains as they are by far the trickiest bit to book.

Definitely look at Seat 61. He has all the obvious options laid out for travel out of / back to London

I would do Eurostar to Brussels then Nightjet to Vienna - this runs 3 nights a week. Then Vienna to Verona for a night or so - possible to get to Lake Garda also from there by train. Then Genoa to Geneva via Milan seeing if possible to squeeze in the Bernina express route. Or alternatively go to Interlaken instead - Reichenbach Falls and Grindelwald etc. Then back to Brussels via Cologne or on to Paris.
